OFCC Sues City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio The sign you see here is posted in Cleveland Heights Parks implying possession of a firearm is a crime. On Friday August 12th, 2011 Ohioans For Concealed Carry Filed a lawsuit against the City the City of Cleveland Heights. The litigation comes after many attempts to resolve concerns over laws that Cleveland Heights not only allowed to remain on their books, but also posted signs at their parks that continue to imply it is illegal to be armed. The City of Cleveland Heights has chosen to ignore our attempts at civil discourse. When individuals have contacted them representing themselves as residents of the City of Cleveland Heights their concerns apparently fell on deaf ears. When representatives of the organization have formally contacted the city's legal representation they've been laughed at and hung up on by the Law Director. It is this arrogance and refusal to work with Ohioans For Concealed Carry that has forced us to seek a remedy through the courts.
Our press release follows.

Canton PD Event Leads to New OFCC Legislation When officer Harless of the Canton, Ohio police department came upon a vehicle stopped in the roadway most of us were focused on getting restaurant carry legislation signed into law. What took place that evening has become an international viral video, calls for the resignation of the City Council president, and criminal charges against a man who is clearly heard trying to state that he has a license. Ohioans For Concealed Carry has not just raised thousands of dollars in a legal defense fund, but we've written legislation to resolve this matter that Representative Danny Bubp has stated he's going to introduce this fall Read the Full Story

Volunteers & Ideas Needed

We're looking for a few good volunteers interested in taking on a leadership role or two in the organization. A few months ago we announced the creation of regional area representatives. This was something we should have done a very long time ago because it helps us spread out project managment into local areas. We have a few primary positions we would like to fill in the near future, and some we hope to appoint during or shortly after the June 9th strategy meeting in Columbus. (read more...)

Our first item of of business is the Central Ohio area. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. has been a very active member since almost the inception of the organization. Due to his busy schedule, heavy work load, and the fact that he's a full-time college student he needs some help. This help will be particularly in helping us staff the PRO Gun Shows in the Central Ohio area. Steve simply can't coordinate and staff these shows. The only requirement is that you must be an OFCC member. Otherwise, if you're interested in helping Steve with this and possibly many other Central Ohio events please click on his name (above) and send him an email as soon as possible.

Our second area of interest for the near future is membership. I will admit over the past few months 2-3 people have mentioned an interest in helping with membership. Since our internal problem is getting closer to being solved I'd like to explain the position in a little more detail. This person will be responsible for entering all membership data into a encrypted website based database, generating mailings to send welcome packets and renewals, responding to membership requests for materials (petitions, postcards, etc), and other small tasks. This will also include receiving all of the materials used to make the membership packet and stuffing them into envelopes in advance. Although it is not entirely neccesary it would be beneficial to the organization if this person lived in or near Northeast Ohio. This person will not be expected to work with any checks or cash, but turning around membership applications in a timely manner will be expected. We're currently in the process of writing the membership database (and yes, it's finally taking shape I'm told - previous attempts sort of fizzled). Once this is complete we'll meet with whomever this person becomes and train them on the process.

A membership committee is something I would like us to pursue, discuss, and possibly create at the July 9th strategy meeting. This group will discuss, discover, and implement benefits for dues paying members. These may include discounted education, products, discounts at ranges, possibly discounts at TDI, etc. This committee will figure it all out on their own.

The rest of the positions are what we would like to staff during or shortly after the strategy meeting in June. If you're at all interested in these positions you really should get in touch with me ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) so I know prior to the meeting.

Editor - We're looking for one or more people interested in being editor, publish, author, or all three. We'd like to look into the feasibility of creating a quarterly (every three months ;-) newsletter for our membership. For examples check out the MCRGO organization's website and click on "News Letters". Once we create a newsletter we'll eliminate the problem of non-internet members being out of touch with our efforts.

Burma Shave Signs -- These signs are a great asset, but we don't have enough. I am confident we could make quite a few more, and I would like to create a committee of individuals who would take care of this entire project. The more signs we install the more free exposure we get to passing motorists.

Media Relations Committee -- This is long overdue and we've been "winging" it for a long time. We need some of our best writers and media familiar individuals to get together and be the responsible parties for taking official OFCC positions and turning them into press releases. This group could also look into making it possible to take a press release and fax or mail it to five or six people in each "key" city in Ohio. Those people could then mass-fax it to their local list, thus saving the organization quite a bit in long distance charges. It would be very helpful if we had someone in this committee to act as our "contact point" by telephone for media inquires. Currently a member is working on a Media Relations Kit to provide the media with facts about the issue. (This group may also help us write additional tri-fold brochures to help convince the non-gun owner why our position(s) are correct)

Affiliated Clubs Manager - This is something I've learned from MCRGO as well. One of the best ways to boost our membership is to allow the existing hunting clubs within the state to become affiliated members. The group will make a one time or yearly donation to the club based on how many members they have. In return, we'll give those members the opportunity to join OFCC at a discounted rate. This could significantly boost our membership, but we'd need someone to manage this. In return we give each group a mention on our website in an affilited clubs directory.

Fund Raising - This may not be a committee, but it sure needs to be looked into. We need to find more ways to raise funds. There are quite a few 'in your face' things we could do in Ohio right now to help pass CCW legislation "if we could just afford this". There are a lot of things we could do to raise funds, but how?

Regional Area Representatives - Currently we have three Regional Reps seperating the State of Ohio into three chunks. We would really like to appoint more people to this position to be a little more realistic. In some places we may even appoint a single individual to just a few counties. One area OFCC needs to create a pressence in is Northwest Ohio in the Sandusky/Toledo area. This doesn't mean we'd turn down help in any other corner of the State. Interested? Just say so. Tasks are as complex as being the head contact for events in your area, informing the organization and membership of any major incidents in your area, and possibly being the sole individual responsible for scheduling volunteers for gun shows in your area.

Safety & Education Committee -- This group is something we really need to form. I would like us to offer a directory (at the very least) of every single individual or "group" offering any form of firearm training to the general public. This can even include non-ofcc members and/or groups. We could even turn this into a pamphlet since most gun stores would get a kick out of being able to say "Heres how to find someone to train you". The NRA trainers would probably love this as well, but coordinating this effort is quite a task at first.

Other subjects of discussion for the meeting include, but are not really limited to:

  • Involving non-internet membership more.
  • How to motivate more response to the media via letters.
  • Getting more people involved in talk radio shows, television, etc.
  • Gun owner apathy (especially at gun shows) "This isn't going to pass, this is Ohio". How do we respond?
  • How do we increase membership quickly to raise more funds?
  • What isn't OFCC and it's membership doing that it should be?

If you have any topics for discussion for the meeting agenda please send them to me as soon as possible. Hope you can make it! More details coming soon!
