OFCC Sues City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio The sign you see here is posted in Cleveland Heights Parks implying possession of a firearm is a crime. On Friday August 12th, 2011 Ohioans For Concealed Carry Filed a lawsuit against the City the City of Cleveland Heights. The litigation comes after many attempts to resolve concerns over laws that Cleveland Heights not only allowed to remain on their books, but also posted signs at their parks that continue to imply it is illegal to be armed. The City of Cleveland Heights has chosen to ignore our attempts at civil discourse. When individuals have contacted them representing themselves as residents of the City of Cleveland Heights their concerns apparently fell on deaf ears. When representatives of the organization have formally contacted the city's legal representation they've been laughed at and hung up on by the Law Director. It is this arrogance and refusal to work with Ohioans For Concealed Carry that has forced us to seek a remedy through the courts.
Our press release follows.

Canton PD Event Leads to New OFCC Legislation When officer Harless of the Canton, Ohio police department came upon a vehicle stopped in the roadway most of us were focused on getting restaurant carry legislation signed into law. SENATE CCW BILL INTRODUCED

The Ohio Senate now has a piece of concealed carry legislation. [press release] Senate Bill 130 was introduced by Sen. Jordan and Wachtmann today in an effort to get the ball rolling in the senate. One major problem: This bill is probably identical to the letter in comparison to HB274.(pdf) For those of you not following the issue, every grass roots organization in Ohio is opposed to the language and various restrictions in HB274 (and quite likely SB130). It is these extreme restrictions, including the potential for this to become a discretionary permit, that make Rep. Aslanides, the Senators, and the NRA so sure their legislation will pass. Of course it would, it's gun control. If you support CCW reform and you support passing a good law the first time through (which may be the only opportunity we'll have) you really need to get involved, join the mailing lists, become a member, make a donation, and put your body where the activism is. Ironic quote of the week: “As I always say, ‘give them an inch and they take a mile,’ -- if we continue to allow the government to chip away at our right to bear arms, it won’t be long before we have no rights to speak of.” - Senator Lynn Wachtmann, after endorsing a CCW bill likely requiring fingerprints, a social security number, a 60 day state residency & 30 day county residency requirement, a 45 day waiting period, and the possibility that anti-gun Sheriff's have the means to deny 100% of applicants. go figure.
