OFCC Sues City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio The sign you see here is posted in Cleveland Heights Parks implying possession of a firearm is a crime. On Friday August 12th, 2011 Ohioans For Concealed Carry Filed a lawsuit against the City the City of Cleveland Heights. The litigation comes after many attempts to resolve concerns over laws that Cleveland Heights not only allowed to remain on their books, but also posted signs at their parks that continue to imply it is illegal to be armed. The City of Cleveland Heights has chosen to ignore our attempts at civil discourse. When individuals have contacted them representing themselves as residents of the City of Cleveland Heights their concerns apparently fell on deaf ears. When representatives of the organization have formally contacted the city's legal representation they've been laughed at and hung up on by the Law Director. It is this arrogance and refusal to work with Ohioans For Concealed Carry that has forced us to seek a remedy through the courts.
Our press release follows.

Even the founder of Michael Moore's bodyguard company is anti-gun

In the wake of a January 20 FOXNews report that Michael Moore's bodyguard had been arrested in at JFK airport on a gun charge, and following aggressive attempts at silencing follow-up reports on the subject from the security company, Ohioans For Concealed Carry Senate District 10 Coordinator Larry S. Moore (no relation to Michael, and we suspect he's thankful for that) decided to look into the company itself.

What he found may give pause to suggestions in some circles that the bodyguard is deserving of pity at being caught up in NYC's complicated and rights-infringing gun control laws. And it definitely provides insight as to how a company that makes its money employing "men with guns" won a contract with Michael Moore.

That Michael Moore Bodyguard story sure dropped off the radar screen like a rock!

I became interested in some things about it. I checked out the security guy's employer, Gavin DeBecker. Nice website. He has written several books including The Gift of Fear, Protecting the Gift, and Fear Less.

I thought with his experience in security etc. these might be good reading, so I got Protecting the Gift from the library. It is supposed to help parents keep kids safe and the parent sane. First half reading was okay. Nothing earth shaking, but I have survived 5 teenage drivers (3 boys - 2 girls) so not much can surprise me most days. Lots of common sense stuff about how to teach children to interact with strangers, ways to go about it gradually within controlled situations, etc. A few too many horror stories to scare people to suit me. If you are worried as a parent and need to read a book, then you probably already know the horror stories. If not, turn on the nightly news.

Then I got to the part about guns. I was expecting words of wisdom about introducing kids to firearms, educating them, maybe even teaching them to shoot. Training them what to do when they found a gun, how to be safe around guns even if adults are idiots, etc. Boy was I wrong!

Here the entire theme of preparing the kids to deal with the real world turned into a lecture on the evils of guns, how many kids die each day (stats from the Brady Bunch with kids including 23-year-old gang bangers!) etc. Big plug for www.paxusa.org. A sample letter to the gun makers to let them know you think they are selling guns to kids and promoting violence. Along with major addresses of the makers. A whole bunch of pages of the usual anti-gun and anti-kids stuff. Blaming NRA for gun violence, etc. In the issue of fairness, there is almost 2 pages on defensive use of firearms.

I think this may explain why the guy went so ballistic over the story on pro-gun/ pro-self-defense web pages. It isn't that they were just sensitive about their guy getting busted at the airport, but I believe they are anti-gun people. They work a lot with the Hollywood crowd. They don't really want us to be responsible for ourselves - better we should hire them.

I am sure glad I got the book from the library and did not spend any of my money with this self-promoting blowhard!
