OFCC Sues City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio The sign you see here is posted in Cleveland Heights Parks implying possession of a firearm is a crime. On Friday August 12th, 2011 Ohioans For Concealed Carry Filed a lawsuit against the City the City of Cleveland Heights. The litigation comes after many attempts to resolve concerns over laws that Cleveland Heights not only allowed to remain on their books, but also posted signs at their parks that continue to imply it is illegal to be armed. The City of Cleveland Heights has chosen to ignore our attempts at civil discourse. When individuals have contacted them representing themselves as residents of the City of Cleveland Heights their concerns apparently fell on deaf ears. When representatives of the organization have formally contacted the city's legal representation they've been laughed at and hung up on by the Law Director. It is this arrogance and refusal to work with Ohioans For Concealed Carry that has forced us to seek a remedy through the courts.
Our press release follows.
Canton PD Event Leads to New OFCC Legislation When officer Harless of the Canton, Ohio police department came upon a vehicle stopped in the roadway most of us were focused on getting restaurant carry legislation signed into law. What took place that evening has become an international viral video, calls for the resignation of the City Council president, and criminal charges against a man who is clearly heard trying to state that he has a license. Ohioans For Concealed Carry has not just raised thousands of dollars in a legal defense fund, but we've written legislation to resolve this matter that Representative Danny Bubp has stated he's going to introduce this fall

Lorain Man Fatally Shot PDF Print E-mail

Just after midnight on Thursday morning, Michael Allen Smith was shot and mortally wounded outside of his Central Lorain home.

"He had just returned home and was in the process of moving a family member's car from the street to into the driveway", Lt. Jim Rohner said. "Our preliminary investigation indicates robbery  as a possible motive".

Not only did the alleged robber gun Mr. Smith down with a shot to the abdomen, the victim was then put in the trunk of his wife's car and left for dead. The police indicated that he was, in fact, still alive upon their arrival at 12:30 a.m.

Apparently no one actually saw the shooting, but a neighbor who heard the shots looked out and saw the victim .

"To see that, it's scary. It was right outside my window." the witness stated.  "It gives me goose bumps. That guy came into the store every day."
Per the story in the Morning Journal, Smith was transported to Community Health Partners in Lorain with a GSW to the abdomen and later transferred to Akron City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 3 a.m.

The news article stated that with warmer weather coming the community is working to find activities to deter children from crime, but police believe that drug activity is the major contributor.

"These are criminals out there, not kids that can't find a place to play basketball," stated Lt. Jim Rohner. "The community activities are great for the children coming up, but it's not going to change the kids already committing crime."

In this particular incident, "the third murder in Lorain this year", a face to face confrontation between an apparently unarmed citizen moving his vehicle in his driveway, and an armed criminal looking for easy cash, for whatever purpose, lends itself to asking the opposition what sort of gun law or ordinance could have stopped this from happening? Maybe ask the community what sort of after school program would put a stop to this in Lorain ?

The "kid gloves" approach has not and will never deter crime, it will never stop someone who is willing to kill another person for the sake of a drug habit or anything else for that matter. The only law that will derail this activity is the law that empowers the law abiding to stand up and defend themselves with a force "for" force resolution. Criminals of this nature have one thing in common, disregard. Disregard for laws and for lives.

There were only two people there……… the bad guy won again.
