OFCC Sues City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio
The sign you see here is posted in Cleveland Heights Parks implying possession of a firearm is a crime.
On Friday August 12th, 2011 Ohioans For Concealed Carry Filed a lawsuit against the City the City of Cleveland Heights. The litigation comes after many attempts to resolve concerns over laws that Cleveland Heights not only allowed to remain on their books, but also posted signs at their parks that continue to imply it is illegal to be armed. The City of Cleveland Heights has chosen to ignore our attempts at civil discourse. When individuals have contacted them representing themselves as residents of the City of Cleveland Heights their concerns apparently fell on deaf ears. When representatives of the organization have formally contacted the city's legal representation they've been laughed at and hung up on by the Law Director. It is this arrogance and refusal to work with Ohioans For Concealed Carry that has forced us to seek a remedy through the courts.

Canton PD Event Leads to New OFCC Legislation
When officer Harless of the Canton, Ohio police department came upon a vehicle stopped in the roadway most of us were focused on getting restaurant carry legislation signed into law.
What took place that evening has become an international viral video, calls for the resignation of the City Council president, and criminal charges against a man who is clearly heard trying to state that he has a license.
Ohioans For Concealed Carry has not just raised thousands of dollars in a legal defense fund, but we've written legislation to resolve this matter that Representative Danny Bubp has stated he's going to introduce this fall

CPZ Signs at Best Buy Come Down

In yet another example of one person making a difference, OFCC member John Emmons reports that "no guns" signs which had designated his local Best Buy as a Criminal Protection Zone have been removed.
After spotting the sign earlier this month, John wrote to Best Buy corporate headquarters to complain. He was rewarded for his efforts when the sign came down.
This is the email exchange which ensued prior to the sign coming down.
John wrote:
Dear Best Buy
My family have been regular customers of Best Buy over the years and have made many purchases amounting to thousands of dollars there. When we visited our local store today on Bechtle Avenue in Springfield Ohio, I noticed a handgun prohibition sign posted at the entrance.
While I'm sure your intent in posting the sign is to promote the safety of your customers and employees, it in fact has the opposite effect. A criminal, intent on committing criminal acts, will freely bring any weapons he chooses past your sign. The sign will however turn away those law-abiding citizens who have passed criminal background checks, have no history of mental illness and completed training and education to be granted a Concealed Handgun License (CHL) by the State of Ohio.
In the 2-1/2 years that Ohio has issued CHLs there have been no negative incidents involving CHL holders. However, there have been numerous occasions that CHL holders have saved themselves and others from serious injury or death from attackers. CHL programs in 47 other states, some dating back to the mid 80s have records of beneficial effects as well.
Your firearm prohibition signs are a message to criminals that you have disarmed those who might otherwise have the means of protecting themselves in your stores and parking lots. Please go to www.OhioCCW.org for more information.
Our policy as a family is to patronize those businesses that do not infringe our right to protect ourselves. I hope that Best Buy will see the wisdom of removing your prohibition signs and we can again shop at your stores.

The reply soon followed:

We appreciate your concern with our stores displaying signs banning gunson the premises. We are committed to abiding to all state and local regulations, and we are also committed to the safety of our customers and employees. Best Buy does not have a company-wide policy prohibiting customers from lawfully carrying hand guns in our stores. Signs prohibiting the lawful carrying of guns in our stores have been removed or will be removed in the near future.
We apologize for any misunderstanding this matter has caused. Best Buy strives to provide our customers with the highest level of service, convenience and selection. We value receiving your comments so we may use this feedback to improve the shopping and service experience for all our customers.
Thank you for sharing your comments with Best Buy. Please do not hesitate to contact us with additional questions or concerns.
Best Wishes from Best Buy,
Sharon and the Customer Care Team
So, it would seem that the sign going up was the work of an unscrupulous manager, and that Best Buy Corporate realizes that the best way to be committed to the safety of their customers is to not deny them the means to protect themselves.
Good work, John!
