OFCC Sues City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio
The sign you see here is posted in Cleveland Heights Parks implying possession of a firearm is a crime.
On Friday August 12th, 2011 Ohioans For Concealed Carry Filed a lawsuit against the City the City of Cleveland Heights. The litigation comes after many attempts to resolve concerns over laws that Cleveland Heights not only allowed to remain on their books, but also posted signs at their parks that continue to imply it is illegal to be armed. The City of Cleveland Heights has chosen to ignore our attempts at civil discourse. When individuals have contacted them representing themselves as residents of the City of Cleveland Heights their concerns apparently fell on deaf ears. When representatives of the organization have formally contacted the city's legal representation they've been laughed at and hung up on by the Law Director. It is this arrogance and refusal to work with Ohioans For Concealed Carry that has forced us to seek a remedy through the courts.

Canton PD Event Leads to New OFCC Legislation
When officer Harless of the Canton, Ohio police department came upon a vehicle stopped in the roadway most of us were focused on getting restaurant carry legislation signed into law.
What took place that evening has become an international viral video, calls for the resignation of the City Council president, and criminal charges against a man who is clearly heard trying to state that he has a license.
Ohioans For Concealed Carry has not just raised thousands of dollars in a legal defense fund, but we've written legislation to resolve this matter that Representative Danny Bubp has stated he's going to introduce this fall

Carry Legally, Carry Safely!

An article published in the online edition of The Fayetteville Observer describes the tragic events of a negligent discharge that resulted in an 18-year-old girl being shot in the chest. All of the facts are not known at this time, but it is being reported that a .380-caliber pistol fell a man's pocket and discharged at a Fayetteville, NC mall. Thankfully, two U.S. Army medics witnessed the scene and saved the life of the victim.
Statistics, historical data, and common sense tell us that those that have passed a background check and been trained to safely carry a firearm for self-defense are the most law-abiding people in this country. That is why we, as a community, must take notice of this incident and do our best to ensure that we do our part to further the established rule of safe Concealed Handgun Licensees. Charges are likely to be filed. I believe those charges are warranted if the facts reveal that this incident was caused solely by negligence on the part of the firearm carrier and not from something like another mall patron jarring the handgun from his pocket.
While I disagree with many statements made in the article, I strongly agree with two positions of The Observer:
Were not going to propose more laws to keep things like this from happening again. Weve got plenty of gun laws already. People who are out on our streets illegally (and carelessly) carrying loaded guns need some harsh treatment in our court system.Carrying a firearm for the protection of yourself and your family is a fundamental and individual right. However, that right brings grave responsibility to those that exercise it. If you havent done so recently, ensure that the gear you use is safe and functional. Practice with your unloaded handgun to ensure that it can not be dislodged and lost. Carry modern firearms that feature "drop safe" mechanisms. Brush up your skills with formal training. Remain alert! Remain proficient! And above all, always remain safe!
Meanwhile, some honors are in order for medics Terhune and Clark. They saved a life and prevented an even greater disaster. We couldnt ask for better neighbors.
