The Bill Goodman Gun and Knife Show in Dayton, Ohio saw some unusual activity this past weekend. Firearm enthusiasts have always known that gun shows provide a safe and legal environment for some of the best bargains available. Unfortunately, one patron wasn't happy with the prices he saw and is now paying for a costly mistake.

David Goodman, Promoter for the Bill Goodman Gun and Knife Shows and long-time friend of OFCC, witnessed someone break into a vendor's display case, steal a pistol, and run through the front door! Goodman exited the venue and legally armed himself. The thief must have believed he was being followed and threw the stolen firearm into a storm sewer drain.
"Once the bandit noticed me behind him, he turned around and started coming towards me as if he wanted to tackle me," Mr. Goodman said.
Believing that the perpetrator was further armed and still a dangerous threat, Goodman drew his legal pistol and ordered the thief to stop and lay on the ground. After a few tense moments, the suspect finally complied. A passing motorist assisted in detaining him until police arrived. A search of his person resulted in the discovery of a large sheathed knife and a folding knife.
“He picked the worst place on Earth to steal from. With uniformed and plain clothes Police, Security, ATF, and numerous CHL holders who frequent the Shows, stealing from someone at a Gun Show is not the brightest thing to do. I'm just glad I was there to help catch this guy.”
Were it not for the quick thinking on the part of Mr. Goodman, a criminal might be in possession of a stolen firearm. This is one more instance of a legally armed citizen using their handgun to stop a crime without ever firing a shot. This account and millions like it will hopefully have criminals thinking twice about trying to victimize those that are equipped to defend themselves.
