OFCC Sues City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio The sign you see here is posted in Cleveland Heights Parks implying possession of a firearm is a crime. On Friday August 12th, 2011 Ohioans For Concealed Carry Filed a lawsuit against the City the City of Cleveland Heights. The litigation comes after many attempts to resolve concerns over laws that Cleveland Heights not only allowed to remain on their books, but also posted signs at their parks that continue to imply it is illegal to be armed. The City of Cleveland Heights has chosen to ignore our attempts at civil discourse. When individuals have contacted them representing themselves as residents of the City of Cleveland Heights their concerns apparently fell on deaf ears. When representatives of the organization have formally contacted the city's legal representation they've been laughed at and hung up on by the Law Director. It is this arrogance and refusal to work with Ohioans For Concealed Carry that has forced us to seek a remedy through the courts.
Our press release follows.

Canton PD Event Leads to New OFCC Legislation When officer Harless of the Canton, Ohio police department came upon a vehicle stopped in the roadway most of us were focused on getting restaurant carry legislation signed into law. What took place that evening has become an international viral video, calls for the resignation of the City Council president, and criminal charges against a man who is clearly heard trying to state that he has a license. Ohioans For Concealed Carry has not just raised thousands of dollars in a legal defense fund, but we've written legislation to resolve this matter that Representative Danny Bubp has stated he's going to introduce this fall Read the Full Story

Preemption & Car Carry Needs Your Help!!!

OFCC President Jeff Garvas has issued a call for action via the CCW-Alert email mechanisms. Specifically, OFCC is asking everyone that wants HB347 as law to call their legislators and the Governor’s office until HB347 is undeniably on its way to becoming reality!

Governor Taft is on record as saying he intends to veto this bill. In order for that veto to be overridden, HB347 needs a three-fifths (3/5) majority vote. Based on the Senate and House vote tallies yesterday (and other sources) OFCC is confident that those votes exist. HOWEVER, there are no guarantees and each one of us spending 10 minutes of our time urging our representatives to represent us will help ensure victory! You can rest assured that the Governor's office is going to be calling in favors, twisting arms, and doing what politicians do to get members of the Senate and House to vote against an over-ride of his veto.

Here’s how you can help...

ACTION ITEMS:

1. Determine who YOUR Representative and Senator is on www.VoteYourGuns.com (using the gray box).

2. Call YOUR Representative and Senator and tell them as a constituent you want to see them override Governor Taft's threatened Veto (even if they didn't initially vote for HB347).

3. Then, call every member of the House and Senate who voted NO on HB347 and ask them to take this opportunity to send a message to Governor Taft that when the Legislature passes a bill the Governor should respect the legislative process. (Use the information guide provided below by clicking on “Read More”).

4. Call the Governor's office at 614-466-3555 and tell them you want him to "do what’s right for Ohio and just let HB347 become law without his signature". Then say the same by using this web form on his website, found HERE. Politely remind him that this bill passed a Senate Committee, the Senate floor, and the House floor in one afternoon with overwhelming numbers. The people have spoken.

5. Call every one of your friends even if they don't own a firearm or don't care and talk them into doing these things. Then, every single weekday until this matter is resolved, repeat steps 1 through 5 at least once a day. The Governor technically has until December 12th to decide what to do before HB347 would simply "become law" without his signature. We must continue to call, call, call until this matter is resolved or we may spend another two years trying to get another HB347 through the next General Assembly. That’s two more cold winters of open carry in a car.

Please help! Together we can make a difference!
