One of the things pro-ccw supporters have been asking for since House Bill 12 passed in Ohio is a fix on the "restaurant ban."

Currently, ccw is prohibited in any establishment for which a class D liquor license has been issued and alcohol is being dispensed. While the intent was to prohibit firearms in bars, the side-effect is that many restaurants are off limits since they serve wine or other alcoholic beverages. Many states, unlike Ohio, permit ccw as long as you're not drinking or impaired (the exact requirements vary).

I sometimes hear, "why would you even want to take a gun into a restaurant?" Of course, you might as well ask "why do you even bother wearing a seatbelt if you're not planning to get into an accident today?" An incident recently occurred reminding us that not even restaurants are immune to violent crime. In a scene that might have come from Pulp Fiction, a Solon, Ohio Max & Erma's was robbed at gunpoint early Sunday morning. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Was it robbed because the criminals knew that firearms are prohibited (for the vicetimes, anyway) due to the liquor license? Regardless, his serves as an example that criminals ply their trade everywhere, not just banks and liquor stores.
