On Saturday, July 19th, 2008, twenty-five Ohio CCW Forum members and OFCC supporters arrived from as far away as Columbus, Ohio and West Virginia to The Salem Hunting Club for a day of shooting.

The event was billed as a "Meet, Greet, Shoot and Eat", but what the attendees received was a whole lot more.

After arriving, guests were briefed on guidelines for the day's shooting event. Safety was the main priority of the day.

A varied blend of beginner and advanced participants headed to the range to test their skills at what could possibly be best described as an “IDPA Light” course.

Six separate scenarios were laid out on the Rifle and Pistol Ranges. Each stage had its obstacles to conquer.

Whether it was shooting at swinging targets from behind concealment, doing strong hand/weak hand drills, or firing while moving from side to side, everyone learned something about their level of shooting proficiency.

At each course, Range/Safety Officers Art Fay and Jay Klein offered suggestions regarding techniques and tactical strategies to best complete the stage.

After the scenarios were concluded everyone congregated at the Pistol Range for an opportunity to evaluate other guest's firearms. Revolvers and pistols of varied makes, models and calibers were put to the test during a brief session of “plinking”.

As the day’s event drew to a close, and the sweet aroma of gunpowder lay heavy in the air; the participants, worn from the heat of the day, were ready to retreat to the sanctuary of air conditioning at one of Salem’s local restaurants to socialize and enjoy a well-deserved meal.

From the feedback received, attendees are looking forward to next years encore.
