OFCC Sues City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio The sign you see here is posted in Cleveland Heights Parks implying possession of a firearm is a crime. On Friday August 12th, 2011 Ohioans For Concealed Carry Filed a lawsuit against the City the City of Cleveland Heights. The litigation comes after many attempts to resolve concerns over laws that Cleveland Heights not only allowed to remain on their books, but also posted signs at their parks that continue to imply it is illegal to be armed. The City of Cleveland Heights has chosen to ignore our attempts at civil discourse. When individuals have contacted them representing themselves as residents of the City of Cleveland Heights their concerns apparently fell on deaf ears. When representatives of the organization have formally contacted the city's legal representation they've been laughed at and hung up on by the Law Director. It is this arrogance and refusal to work with Ohioans For Concealed Carry that has forced us to seek a remedy through the courts.
Our press release follows.

Citizens Fighting Back

Recently released FBI statistics show that justifiable homicides (self-defense lethal force) have continue to rise in the last two years. Some "experts" attribute this to a "shoot-first philosophy", when really it is more of an "able to defend myself" philosophy.

An article in USA TODAY reported that there were 391 justifiable homicides by police in 2007, and 254 for private citizens.

USA TODAY reports that "some law enforcement analysts say the numbers represent changing attitudes on the streets, where police have felt more threatened by well-armed offenders, and citizens have taken greater responsibility for their own safety."

Police are no longer as willing to take chances as criminals have shown a tendency to be more and more willing to become cop killers. Particularly between drug crimes and gang violence, the threat to officer safety has dramatically increased and is being taken seriously.

Private citizens, having become fed up with being victimized, have taken advantage of the grassroots movement sweeping the country and are legally arming themselves and choosing not to be easy victims for these predators.

This isn't a "shoot first" mentality, this is a "my life is valuable to me and I'm not going to let you take it away" mentality. Just as criminals have shown an increased willingness to kill police officers, they have increased deadly violence against private citizens as well.

More and more, we are hearing stories of people getting bashed in the head with rocks, shot in the back while walking in the park, or being shot or killed even after complying with the demands of robbers. People have had enough and are fighting back.

Taking responsibility for your own safety by being able to protect yourself with a gun means no longer being left only with the option of putting your life at the mercy of a violent criminal.

It isn't your choice whether a criminal will target you, but it is your choice whether you're an easy victim, or one that can fight back and prevail.
