OFCC Sues City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio The sign you see here is posted in Cleveland Heights Parks implying possession of a firearm is a crime. On Friday August 12th, 2011 Ohioans For Concealed Carry Filed a lawsuit against the City the City of Cleveland Heights. The litigation comes after many attempts to resolve concerns over laws that Cleveland Heights not only allowed to remain on their books, but also posted signs at their parks that continue to imply it is illegal to be armed. The City of Cleveland Heights has chosen to ignore our attempts at civil discourse. When individuals have contacted them representing themselves as residents of the City of Cleveland Heights their concerns apparently fell on deaf ears. When representatives of the organization have formally contacted the city's legal representation they've been laughed at and hung up on by the Law Director. It is this arrogance and refusal to work with Ohioans For Concealed Carry that has forced us to seek a remedy through the courts.
Our press release follows.

Women Prepared to Fight Back

With reports of a possible serial rapist in the loose in Central Ohio, many women in the area are obtaining a concealed handgun license to be able to protect themselves.

From a Fox 28 News article:
Ruth Vandegrift is one woman whose completing self-defense and gun safety classes.

She's arming herself so she isn't the next victim of the serial rapist.

Vandegrift says, "I wouldn't be strong enough if someone attacked me. But if I had capability to stop them, I would feel more safe."

More than just feeling safe, anyone, female or male, actually is safer if they are able to protect themselves.

Several gun shops in the area have reported a substantial increase in the number of women taking training classes. The entire situation is reminiscent of when in Louisiana in 2002 then Governor Mike Foster told women "You have the right to get a gun permit...Learn to use it" after a string of rapes and murders hit women in his state.

"Most people don't ever want to use a gun to protect themselves - that's the last thing they want to do - but if you know how and you have a situation with some fruitcake running around, like they've got right now, it sure can save you a lot of grief," Foster said at the time.

That advice holds just as true today as then.

Of course, fears that the Obama Administration will limit the right to self defense by enacting a new "Assault Weapons" ban that could be so restrictive as to ban even semi-automatic handguns has lead to an increase in sales at gun shops across the country by both men and women. Law abiding citizens are acting now to be sure they have the ability to defend their lives in the future. Let's hope that's not one of the "changes" coming.
