![]() On November 17th 2008, Ashland Universitys John Ashbrook Center welcomed Mr. Wayne LaPierre of the NRA as part of the Major Issues Lecture Series. Wayne did not want the fire, to the truth, to go out. In front of over seven hundred grass root listeners, Wayne spoke of The Second Amendment Rights are Everybodys rights. As Wayne entered the room he wanted to meet everyone first hand. He walked from table to table shaking hands, signing books, hats and welcoming everyone. Who was there? There were many Joe the plumbers, college students as well as local, county and national officials. It was great to see so many different faces. The University had placed two Ashbrook Scholar students at each table, allowing students and NRA activists and enthusiasts to share their thoughts and concerns about the topic at hand, the Second Amendment. This amendment is in their future and will be up to them to protect. I thought this was great, a University teaching something that isnt read from a book, but read from the souls of men. Mr. LaPierres talk was highlighted with clips of Charleston Heston, from during his march with Dr. Martin King through the legacy of the tenure of presidency of the National Rifle Association. Afterwards he spoke and ran clips from the ravaged area following Katrina. He had filmed interviews with people who lived through this event. He had interviews with people that when they saw the police coming thought that help was on the way -WRONG-... they were there to take their guns. Old ladys knocked down and their only protection was taken away. The police were told look they are stealing my van- the police watched, then turned to ransack the house looking for more guns. What happened to the thieves you ask? They drove away with the van. Remember THIS IS AMERICA2008THIS DOESNT HAPPEN HERE Think again. California police came to help out, with the same results. REMEMBER THIS ONLY HAPPENS ON THE NEWS AT 11 OVER THERE, NOT IN AMERICA. WRONG AGAIN!! This was not a war dance to excite the group. It was to tell us what really happened. And to identify how much help is needed. To tell us the things you should never see on any news TV channel. Mr. LaPierre urged members to stay vigilant while pressures mount to disarm us, affairs that the elite class is trying to cripple the right to keep and bear arms. We are in grave danger to losing our freedom. As people like Rebecca Peters, director of international action network on small arms, calls for more and more gun restrictions around the world. She believes that Americans should be like other countries, give up, turn in your guns. But as in every country in the world that has done this, crime has risen by double digits. People are afraid to be alone, afraid to travel, afraid of being afraid. Remember, it says By the people, for the people never forget.
