Ohioans For Concealed Carry will be sponsoring a concealed handgun license training class for a group of soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 134th Field Artillery unit of the Ohio National Guard on Saturday, January 24, 2009 from 7:00am to 8:15pm. Some of the soldiers will also be bringing their significant others.

These solders returned from an 11 month deployment to Kuwait on December 9, 2008. Prior to their return, Sergeant L. J. Valentine posted on the OhioCCW.org forums that his soldiers were looking to supplement their military training with the NRA’s Basic Pistol course prior to applying for concealed handgun licenses. He also noted the benefits of exposure to the handling of firearms in a civilian capacity, as well as a desire to become familiar with Ohio’s gun laws as they relate to concealed carry.

OFCC Secretary/Treasurer Daniel White saw the posting and offered to conduct the training class free of charge. All instructors are donating their time, OFCC is donating materials, and Black Wing Shooting Center of Delaware is donating use of their range for the class.

“OFCC thanks all members of the military for their service to the citizens of this country,” said White. “We hope this will serve in some small way as a show of gratitude for their sacrifice.”

After completion of this course, all participants will have met the requirements to apply for a concealed handgun license under Ohio law.
