OFCC noted that even before the General Election, Barack Obama had anti-gun goals listed on his campaign website. Today, those goals have been transferred to the official White House website. Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent. So much for the promise to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." This isn't surprising considering Obama's long history of support for gun control schemes. Each one of these has been proven to be a false measure to decrease crime. Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. That is a flat out lie regarding the Tiahrt Amendment. The gun trace data was created by law enforcement for law enforcement. To insinuate they don't have access to it is ludicrous. Not only does law enforcement have full access, but they don't want the system opened up to the public. For one thing, doing so would jeopardize ongoing investigations. Gun control advocates perpetuate this lie because they want access to the data to use it to create more false statistics and to try to manipulate it to be used in frivolous lawsuits and to launch harassment campaigns. ...keeping guns away from children and from criminals This is code-speak for mandating that firearms be rendered useless in the home by being unloaded and locked up at all times, that unreliable "smart gun" technology be rushed into production (rendering firearms extremely expensive and undependable), enacting gun rationing schemes, and anything else they can think of to claim is "for the children." They support closing the gun show loophole The mythical "gun show loophole" rears its ugly head once again. There is no loophole. What they really mean is that they want to ban private sales of firearms. ...making guns in this country childproof See above. This is about taking away the ability to use firearms for self-defense. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent. No anti-gun agenda is complete without mention of the holy grail of gun control, the so-called "Assault Weapons Ban." Only this time, the plan is to make it permanent, make it far-reaching, and to give the U.S. Attorney General the right to decide, on his own, what guns should be banned. While lying to the public and claiming it is intended to ban machine guns, they will really be after any semi-automatic firearm they can get their hands on. This includes shotguns and rifles used for hunting, in addition to semi-automatic pistols used for competition and commonly carried for self-defense. Yesterday, in his Inauguration speech, Barack Obama said, As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our founding fathers our found fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expediences sake. And yet, it would seem that is exactly what he intends to do with the one Right he does not personally agree with. We'll be watching. |
