OFCC Sues City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio The sign you see here is posted in Cleveland Heights Parks implying possession of a firearm is a crime. On Friday August 12th, 2011 Ohioans For Concealed Carry Filed a lawsuit against the City the City of Cleveland Heights. The litigation comes after many attempts to resolve concerns over laws that Cleveland Heights not only allowed to remain on their books, but also posted signs at their parks that continue to imply it is illegal to be armed. The City of Cleveland Heights has chosen to ignore our attempts at civil discourse. When individuals have contacted them representing themselves as residents of the City of Cleveland Heights their concerns apparently fell on deaf ears. When representatives of the organization have formally contacted the city's legal representation they've been laughed at and hung up on by the Law Director. It is this arrogance and refusal to work with Ohioans For Concealed Carry that has forced us to seek a remedy through the courts.
Our press release follows.
Canton PD Event Leads to New OFCC Legislation When officer Harless of the Canton, Ohio police department came upon a vehicle stopped in the roadway most of us were focused on getting restaurant carry legislation signed into law. What took place that evening has become an international viral video, calls for the resignation of the City Council president, and criminal charges against a man who is clearly heard trying to state that he has a license. Ohioans For Concealed Carry has not just raised thousands of dollars in a legal defense fund, but we've written legislation to resolve this matter that Representative Danny Bubp has stated he's going to introduce this fall

Brady Campaign hopes gun control dreams will be coming true PDF Print E-mail

While the "political experts" try to lull us to sleep by claiming President Obama has better things to do than to push for restrictive gun control measures, anti-gun groups are mobilizing and nearly tripping over themselves trying to get their proposals to him as fast as they can.

After sending Obama their wish list, they are now working on spreading their lies through the mass media.

An article by Paul Helmke, Brady Campaign president, details their goals and is filled with faulty logic and bald-faced lies.

Said Helmke, "the year also offered hope for the future, as the Brady Campaign endorsed – and our grassroots activists helped elect – Barack Obama as President of the United States, along with many other new officeholders who support taking steps to reduce gun violence [ownership]".

They claim their goal is reducing gun violence, but why do they continue to pursue an agenda that has proven to be ineffective in meeting that goal? Could it be that they aren't really as concerned with gun violence as they are with taking gun rights away completely?

Helmke latched onto a statement made by Obama during the Democratic National Convention when he said, "the reality of gun ownership may be different for hunters in rural Ohio than they are for those plagued by gang violence in Cleveland." This puts forth the argument that people who live in cities should have different rights than those who live in the country, an idea found nowhere in the U.S. Constitution, nor in any legal writings of the time. Imagine the outrage if it was suggested that only elites living in big cities were intellectual enough to be permitted to write for newspapers, taking away freedom of the press for those in rural communities.

Fortunately, this kind of radical leftist thinking isn't shared by the majority of Americans. Yet, the gun grabbers remain oblivious to that truth.

In that same article, Helmke bragged that protests against the "weak gun laws" that they claim were responsible for the Virginia Tech shootings "held in over 100 cities and towns across the country" resulted in "an amazing outpouring of grassroots support for stronger, common sense gun laws". What entailed this "powerful" demonstration? "Groups of about 32 people" in the 100 cities. Just over 3,000 people, out of 300 million, showed up. That's like a baseball team being down 32-0 in the ninth and saying they've got the other team right where they want them!

In further displays of insanity, Helmke goes on to brag that the Brady Campaign accurately predicted they were going to lose the Heller case (nice prognostication, there), but that it is a good thing for gun control. Why?

"After Heller, there is clearly a right to own a gun for self-defense in the home, while guns may still be regulated by our elected officials in order to protect public safety." In the home. That is the new strategy of the gun ban movement. They are going to try to go after the "bear arms" part of the Constitution, pretending it doesn't exist and enacting new "restrictions against carrying concealed weapons". Obama has said in the past that he opposes concealed carry laws, so this may very well be within their grasp.

This is one truth that Helmke did note when he said, "I believe our movement is in a stronger position to pass life-saving gun laws in 2009 and beyond, than at any time in decades." Of course, they don't let the fact that none of their schemes have any data supporting their claims of a reduction of violence, but you can't let facts stand in the way of a good argument.

As President Obama begins his term in office, the gun control movement has become energized and are feeling empowered. The only thing standing between them and their goals of stringent gun control measures are The People, and we have to answer that call. If you're not a member of Ohioans For Concealed Carry, join today. If you're not a member of the National Rifle Association, join today. It is only by working together that we can keep the travesty of European-like infringements on our gun rights from coming to pass. If we don't stop them, nobody will.
