The upward trend of Concealed Handgun Licensing continues in Ohio as recorded in the 1st quarter CHL statistics released by Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray.

For the 1st quarter, there was a nearly 51% increase in issuance over the previous quarter with 16,323 new licenses being issued. There were also 4,906 renewals. Even more telling is comparing that total to the first quarter of 2008 when 6,834 licenses were issue, a stunning 139% increase over a year ago.

It is clear by these numbers that Ohio citizens are concerned about their safety in these uncertain times where law enforcement agencies are enacting officer cutbacks and increasing unemployment leads to fears that desperate people will turn to crime.

With the obvious strong support for the program, we urge the Ohio legislature to continue to restore gun rights to Ohio citizens and remove victim disarmament zones where such personal protection is prohibited, such as in restaurants that serve alcohol even though the CHL holder is not drinking or impaired in any way.
