Today Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray announced a new reciprocity agreement with the state of Nebraska in a statement released by his office.
This month our office signed a reciprocity agreement with the state of Nebraska that will allow lawful Ohio concealed carry permit holders to carry concealed firearms in Nebraska; likewise, lawful Nebraska permit holders may now carry concealed firearms in Ohio.
Read the agreement here:
Nebraska is the 19th state to reach a concealed carry reciprocity agreement with Ohio. The last agreement signed was in 2007, when the attorney general entered into a reciprocity agreement with the state of West Virginia.
The law allows Ohio to reach reciprocal agreements for the carrying of concealed handguns with states that have similar laws. Because Nebraska requires training and a criminal background check similar to Ohio’s requirements, an agreement between our states only makes sense.
I am committed to protecting Ohioans’ Second Amendment rights and will continue to push for further reciprocal agreements with other states that also have responsible licensing laws.
Earlier this year, our office announced that a record number of concealed carry permits were issued to Ohioans in 2009. The total number of Ohio permits issued in 2009 was 56,691, well above the previous high of 45,497, which was set in 2004 when Ohio’s concealed handgun law first went into effect. The Attorney General’s Office provides these statistics online, as well as a listing of other states that have reciprocity agreements with Ohio, copies of license applications and information on Ohio’s concealed carry law.
