Ohio Second Amendment March is this Saturday! PDF Print E-mail

The Ohio Second Amendment March will be held in April 10, 2010.

Join gun rights activists from across the state this Saturday on the West Plaza of the Ohio Statehouse for the Ohio Second Amendment March rally!

The Second Amendment March is a celebration of gun rights and a clear message to our legislators that citizens value the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and that we, as Ohioans and Americans, are willing to stand up and be heard.

We will be joined by a fine slate of speakers who will speak on these issues from their own perspective and experience.

Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray is a longtime supporter of gun rights and has defended Ohio's concealed carry reform laws in court many times as well as being a co-sponsor of an amicus brief in the McDonald Supreme Court case.

Ohio Senator Jon Husted is a hunter and gun owner. He consistently votes pro-gun, voted for the original concealed carry bill in Ohio, and voted to override former Ohio Governor Bob Taft's veto of one gun rights reform bill.

Representative Seth Morgan is a gun owner and concealed carry licensee. He introduced legislation that would make guns manufactured and sold in Ohio exempt from Federal regulations.

Nicole Goeser is a Tennessee gun rights activist who suffered the tragedy of her husband being killed by her stalker after being disarmed by a Tennessee law prohibiting law abiding citizens from exercising their right to bear arms anyplace alcohol is served. Nicole has twice appeared before the Ohio legislature to testify in favor of restaurant carry reform.

Dave Yost is a former Delaware County prosecutor who filed an Amicus brief in the Heller case and has a history of standing up for Second Amendment rights.

Skip Coryell is an author, gun rights activist and the founder of the Second Amendment March.

Is your doctor qualified to give gun safety advice? PDF Print E-mail

In yesterday's Gun Rights Examiner column, we looked at a common practice among many physicians, particularly those associated with HMO/PPOs: Counseling patients who own guns to store them locked and separated from ammunition.

I would never suggest there aren't times when it's appropriate to lock up guns not in use, and certainly advocate responsible gun storage. But I also know that an unloaded and locked up gun is useless for defense. And I know that training children to understand and respect is superior to avoidance and ignorance.

Let us not forget successful defensive gun uses (DGUs) by young people--as well as horrible things that can happen when trained children are left defenseless.

Ohioans For Concealed Carry Fun 'n Gun a great success PDF Print E-mail

On Saturday, April 3 over 100 people gathered for the Sixth Annual Ohioans For Concealed Carry Fun 'n Gun fundraiser!

This year, the event was again hosted by the Tactical Defense Institute in West Union, Ohio. John Benner and his staff were joined by Randy Bueche and a team of International Defensive Pistol Association competitors to help OFCC make this event a great success.

The day started out with a beautiful morning, though dark clouds and gusting winds threatened to dampen the fun in the afternoon but we got lucky and the rain never came.

Participants in the shoot got to experience IDPA-type scenarios set up to mimic self-defense situations that you might find yourself in. One stage of the event, for example, found the participant coming home and being attacked by two assailants while carrying a child. At another stage, shooters moved through a darkened live-fire house to experience defensive shooting in low-light conditions. In the Force-on-Force house, participants swapped out their firearms for SoftAir guns and experienced a true-to-life type encounter with a live assailant!

While not a training event, participants still benefited from the knowledge of the TDI and IDPA instructors and many of the shooters expressed an interest in coming back to TDI to take a training class.

Overall, an excellent time was had by all and Ohioans For Concealed Carry thanks everyone for attending as well as thanking all the staff for donating their time to help raise money to defend and expand gun rights in Ohio.

Why is MSNBC's Rachel Maddow smearing Second Amendment March? PDF Print E-mail

It's almost funny how desperate some on the left are to conflate gun owners with haters—and instructive to see how filled with hate some of these "progressives" reveal themselves to be. A good example of this is the meme that the Second Amendment March is scheduled to take place on April 19 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing.

Here's a sample of sentiment gleaned from around the web:

WOW, they are celebrating a terrorist attack on the US?

and

god, how do these gun nuts sleep at night? ...They probably think McVeigh was a hero. some certainly think Koresh is. these are the Tea Baggers among us. loons, misfits, gun nuts, paranoids, racists and traitorous cowards.

Browns defensive lineman Shaun Rogers attempts to convey a firearm onto an aircraft PDF Print E-mail

Its almost a common occurrence to hear that a professional athlete, elected official, or average Joe citizen accidentally tried to convey a firearm past TSA security screening and onto a commercial airline.  Today Browns defensive lineman Shaun Rogers tried it with predictable results - he was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.  WEWS coverage of the story implies that he has not yet been formally charged.

Cleveland's Channel 5 contacted Ohioans For Concealed Carry and was surprised to learn that had Rogers simply declared the firearm properly and and checked it with his luggage we likely wouldn't be talking about this arrest tonight.   If you missed their brief coverage of the arrest at the top of the 11 o'clock newscast Thursday you can catch it here:
