OFCC Sues City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio The sign you see here is posted in Cleveland Heights Parks implying possession of a firearm is a crime. On Friday August 12th, 2011 Ohioans For Concealed Carry Filed a lawsuit against the City the City of Cleveland Heights. The litigation comes after many attempts to resolve concerns over laws that Cleveland Heights not only allowed to remain on their books, but also posted signs at their parks that continue to imply it is illegal to be armed. The City of Cleveland Heights has chosen to ignore our attempts at civil discourse. When individuals have contacted them representing themselves as residents of the City of Cleveland Heights their concerns apparently fell on deaf ears. When representatives of the organization have formally contacted the city's legal representation they've been laughed at and hung up on by the Law Director. It is this arrogance and refusal to work with Ohioans For Concealed Carry that has forced us to seek a remedy through the courts.
Our press release follows.
Canton PD Event Leads to New OFCC Legislation When officer Harless of the Canton, Ohio police department came upon a vehicle stopped in the roadway most of us were focused on getting restaurant carry legislation signed into law. What took place that evening has become an international viral video, calls for the resignation of the City Council president, and criminal charges against a man who is clearly heard trying to state that he has a license. Ohioans For Concealed Carry has not just raised thousands of dollars in a legal defense fund, but we've written legislation to resolve this matter that Representative Danny Bubp has stated he's going to introduce this fall

ODNR Proposes Lifting All CCW Restrictions PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jeff Garvas
Sunday, 04 March 2007 07:29

Visitors to today's open houses held by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources discovered that the ODNR has formally proposed changes to the regulations that limit carrying concealed during certain hunting activities.

Representatives from Ohioans For Concealed Carry visited various district offices today to discuss the issue and we even met some familiar faces.

It has always been legal for a concealed handgun licensee to carry a handgun while fishing, trapping, or hunting any game in Ohio other than Deer or Wild Turkey according to the ODNR. The new rules would propose lifting every restriction that prohibits carrying a concealed firearm, including the regulations that limit you to "one gun" while hunting deer during gun week.

Restrictions to this proposal include prohibiting the hunter from using their concealed firearm for hunting purposes when carrying two firearms. If passed, the proposal would go into effect September 1st, 2007. Therefor, we urge you to print off this letter and mail it to the ODNR in support of this proposal if you have not already done so. Get everyone you know to do the same even if they don't typically hunt -- statewide restrictions like this impact all of us.

Governor Strickland
Ohioans For Concealed Carry is thrilled to announce that Ohio Governor Ted Strickland has accepted our invitation to serve as keynote speaker at OFCC's fourth annual family picnic, the Party in the Park. His office has confirmed that the Governor is eager to speak to our members and supporters at this great event being held on the afternoon of Saturday, September 29th in Liberty Park of Powell, Ohio (just north of Columbus). (Google Map)

This year's picnic will start earlier than prior years in order to accommodate the obviously hectic schedule of Governor Strickland. Lunch will be served at 11:30AM. Governor Strickland is expected to arrive at noon and will address the crowd between 12:30 and 1:00PM.

OFCC is also pleased to welcome several other distinguished guests that are scheduled to speak to our membership. Ohio Representative Michael DeBose (D-Cleveland), who was formerly an opponent of concealed carry until he experienced firsthand an armed mugging attempt that convinced him to obtain a Concealed Handgun License will join Tactical Defense Institute (TDI) proprietor and past OFCC Award Winner John Benner. TDI is one of the leading firearms and tactical training facilities in the country.

Also speaking will be Brian Patrick from the University of Toledo. Professor Patrick has presented at numerous pro-firearm events, such as the 2006 Firearms Law and Second Amendment Symposium held at the George Mason School of Law in Arlington, VA.

Tickets are still available for this wonderful family-friendly event! We welcome all like-minded friends to share in great food, fellowship, and a chance to interact with the first outwardly pro-gun Governor to be elected in several years to the highest office in Ohio.

Attending the event is free. Limited Quantities of tickets for lunch (Burgers, dogs, chicken, sides, and drinks) are available AT THE DOOR on Saturday

New CHL Pamphlet Available for Download PDF Print E-mail

Attention all CHL trainers!

The new Concealed Carry Publication (reflecting the new changes going into effect March 14) required by law to be read by CHL applicants is now available for download from the Ohio Attorney General Website.

Click here to download your copy, or to request copies for your students.

An initial review of the new booklet reveals that the much of the material is streamlined. Some of the boxes and highlights have been reduced to a much cleaner design. Some of the controversy over "beer' being liquor appears to have been removed.

Many items in the booklet, such as carrying concealed in a vehicle, reflect changes in Ohio law that take effect March 14th, 2007 and should not be followed until that time.
