OFCC Sues City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio The sign you see here is posted in Cleveland Heights Parks implying possession of a firearm is a crime. On Friday August 12th, 2011 Ohioans For Concealed Carry Filed a lawsuit against the City the City of Cleveland Heights. The litigation comes after many attempts to resolve concerns over laws that Cleveland Heights not only allowed to remain on their books, but also posted signs at their parks that continue to imply it is illegal to be armed. The City of Cleveland Heights has chosen to ignore our attempts at civil discourse. When individuals have contacted them representing themselves as residents of the City of Cleveland Heights their concerns apparently fell on deaf ears. When representatives of the organization have formally contacted the city's legal representation they've been laughed at and hung up on by the Law Director. It is this arrogance and refusal to work with Ohioans For Concealed Carry that has forced us to seek a remedy through the courts.
Our press release follows.
Canton PD Event Leads to New OFCC Legislation When officer Harless of the Canton, Ohio police department came upon a vehicle stopped in the roadway most of us were focused on getting restaurant carry legislation signed into law. What took place that evening has become an international viral video, calls for the resignation of the City Council president, and criminal charges against a man who is clearly heard trying to state that he has a license. Ohioans For Concealed Carry has not just raised thousands of dollars in a legal defense fund, but we've written legislation to resolve this matter that Representative Danny Bubp has stated he's going to introduce this fall

OFCC Joins Call For Bloomberg Investigation PDF Print E-mail
Written by Daniel White

Ohioans For Concealed Carry is pleased to join with The Virginia Citizens Defense League and other gun-rights groups in calling for an official federal investigation into New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's assault on firearms dealers.

From the letter being sent to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives:
It is well known that Mayor Bloomberg has organized a multi-state vigilante-style campaign against federal gun dealers. Bloomberg’s gambit is simple – without any federal or state law enforcement authorization, he sends people to federal firearms dealers to break federal law by providing false information on the federal ATF Form 4473 firearm transfer form, and then purchasing guns for persons prohibited by law from taking possession of guns (a so called “straw” sale). Bloomberg then files a civil lawsuit against the dealer in a New York court while using a covertly made video tape of the transaction to blackmail the dealer into “settling” on terms where the City of New York’s “Special Master” will supplant ATF supervision of the dealer and peruse Americans’ confidential federal gun transfer records at will.

"Some Perspective on Call for Gun Control" PDF Print E-mail

A regular contributor to OFCC’s popular Discussion Forums has been kind enough to share a very informative article written by Peter Friedman. This little gem comes to us from (of all places) Massachusetts. There are several facts given that completely debunk some politicians’ cries for more gun control. The next time you hear about someone wanting to further infringe upon your innate and guaranteed right to keep and bear arms, be ready to confront that anti-gun zealot with the following information:

New Year Resolutions PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mike Kinsey

It is that time of year when each of us take stock of what we have done, where we are, and what we would like to accomplish in the coming year. This reflection usually ends up in a list of resolutions. I am drawing up two lists this time and hope that you will do the same. The first is my perennial list: Lose ten pounds, Exercise every day, Call my mother more often… Perhaps I should save myself some time and photocopy last year’s.

With that, I will move on to my second list. This is the one that I plan on taking much more seriously so that I won’t feel too badly about skipping a morning run every now and then. Below are a few things that I will do my absolute best in trying to accomplish in 2007:

Governor Taft Signs HB9 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jeff Garvas
Friday, 29 December 2006 05:07

On Wednesday Governor Bob Taft signed HB9 into law, which means the changes to the release of concealed carry data was not enough to make him veto the legislation. As we reported earlier this month the Senate removed the opt-out provisions.

The Senate version allows journalists access to the names in person at the Sheriff's office, but prohibits them from making copies. This puts the burden on the journalist to write down anything they really want, but doesn't prohibit them from copying or reading off every licensee into a tape recorder. At the very least, it makes the act of copying entire lists all that much harder to accomplish.

At the same time, it allows those who want the information for the legitimate purpose of news reporting to actually report if someone accused of a crime had a firearm. Based on news reporting since the law went to effect, and with the newspapers having their own complete lists of likely gun owners, we doubt they'll begin such an informative reporting of those facts any time soon.

Nancy Pelosi Trying to Limit Grassroots Activism? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Daniel White

The biggest strength of Ohioans For Concealed Carry has always been the efforts of our grassroots members. The ability to mobilize that base to contact their legislators has been crucial for gun rights reform in Ohio. Similar actions have been widely credited with the waves of reform which have swept the country in recent years.

Now, incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is reportedly making overtures to curb that sort of grassroots activism by establishing "lobbying reform" to impose strict new regulations on such displays of free speech.

According to some reports:
The legislation would make changes to the legal definition of "grassroots lobbying" and require any organization that encourages 500 or more members of the general public to contact their elected representatives to file a report with detailed information about their organization to the government on a quarterly basis.
