OFCC Sues City of Cleveland Heights, Ohio The sign you see here is posted in Cleveland Heights Parks implying possession of a firearm is a crime. On Friday August 12th, 2011 Ohioans For Concealed Carry Filed a lawsuit against the City the City of Cleveland Heights. The litigation comes after many attempts to resolve concerns over laws that Cleveland Heights not only allowed to remain on their books, but also posted signs at their parks that continue to imply it is illegal to be armed. The City of Cleveland Heights has chosen to ignore our attempts at civil discourse. When individuals have contacted them representing themselves as residents of the City of Cleveland Heights their concerns apparently fell on deaf ears. When representatives of the organization have formally contacted the city's legal representation they've been laughed at and hung up on by the Law Director. It is this arrogance and refusal to work with Ohioans For Concealed Carry that has forced us to seek a remedy through the courts.
Our press release follows.
Canton PD Event Leads to New OFCC Legislation When officer Harless of the Canton, Ohio police department came upon a vehicle stopped in the roadway most of us were focused on getting restaurant carry legislation signed into law. What took place that evening has become an international viral video, calls for the resignation of the City Council president, and criminal charges against a man who is clearly heard trying to state that he has a license. Ohioans For Concealed Carry has not just raised thousands of dollars in a legal defense fund, but we've written legislation to resolve this matter that Representative Danny Bubp has stated he's going to introduce this fall

Ohioans For Concealed Carry and the OFCC PAC are pleased to announce the largest Get Out The Vote outreach effort we have conducted since our inception in 1999, and the OFCC PAC in 2002.

This week, Ohioans For Concealed Carry began distributing full-color glossy voter guides to the homes of approximately 35,000 members and supporters. The guide includes vital voter information, dates, and instructions relative to new requirements the State of Ohio has enacted, such as required proof of identification at the polls.

In cooperation with the OFCC PAC, The Voter Guide contains the Political Action Committee's candidate endorsements for 2006. We expect the guides to arrive in between today and next week Tuesday.

This year's election is to be held November 7th, a week from next Tuesday.

A recent study entitled “Gun Laws and Sudden Death: Did the Australian Firearms Legislation of 1996 Make a Difference?” published in the British Journal of Criminology examines the history of gun control laws enacted in Australia. These laws include a complete ban on pump action shotguns, semi-automatic shotguns, and semi-automatic rifles. Australia also implemented a massive government sponsored Gun Buyback Program. That program has spent $500 million collecting 640,000 arbitrarily banned firearms.

Exploring the Corporate Anti-Gun Mentality PDF Print E-mail

Regular readers of this website have seen a lot of material regarding a private business’s choice to prohibit licensed patrons from carrying a handgun for self-defense. A legally binding sign in Ohio may be almost anything at all. It could consist of only two words: “No Guns”. However, those two words imply so much more. They imply that management somehow thinks such a sign creates a magic bubble around the front door that repels evil. They imply that your money isn’t welcome if you’d like to spend it while ensuring the safety of your family. They imply that you’re not trusted to be safe and responsible with your concealed handgun even though millions of law-abiding licensees live, work, and shop in forty-eight states without incident.

A Tale of Two Shootings PDF Print E-mail

Thursday turned out to be a violent day for a postal worker in Canton and a convienence store owner in Cleveland. With their shootings taking place just hours apart, we are reminded that becoming the victim of a violent crime can happen anywhere and at any time.

Jennifer Milburn was a 26-year-old United States Postal Worker with just under three weeks on the job. The Canton residents on her route came to know her as an outgoing letter carrier that was genuinely interested in making sure they received their mail.

She was shot in the head on Thursday while standing on the porch of a residence. Published news reports state that Canton Police, the FBI, and the US Postal Police have two suspects, aged 19 and 21, in custody for murder and obstruction of justice. It still isn't clear if Milburn was the intended target, a random target, or the victim of unintended consequences. We'll never know if she had a fighting chance.

Carry Legally, Carry Safely! PDF Print E-mail

An article published in the online edition of The Fayetteville Observer describes the tragic events of a negligent discharge that resulted in an 18-year-old girl being shot in the chest. All of the facts are not known at this time, but it is being reported that a .380-caliber pistol fell a man's pocket and discharged at a Fayetteville, NC mall. Thankfully, two U.S. Army medics witnessed the scene and saved the life of the victim.

Statistics, historical data, and common sense tell us that those that have passed a background check and been trained to safely carry a firearm for self-defense are the most law-abiding people in this country. That is why we, as a community, must take notice of this incident and do our best to ensure that we do our part to further the established rule of safe Concealed Handgun Licensees.
