An Ohio license to carry concealed firearms will be valid for five years. You must renew your training every six years, or every other time you renew your license to carry concealed. Licenses issued prior to HB 347 will expire after four years, but renewals will be good for five years.
While the Ohio AG has published a time frame for renewing training, it appears incorrect. According to the statute, you must renew your training prior to the expiration of the sixth anniversary of your certificate of competency if you wish to just update it. If you go beyond the sixth anniversary, you need to take the entire course again. This means that you may renew your license once on your original training. Before the sixth anniversary of your certificate, you need to renew the certificate through a demonstration of competence with an instructor and that certificate is good for another six years, so you will probably only be able to renew your license once under the renewed certificate before the next six year period expires.
