Do I need a license to carry a handgun in a holster out in the open? PDF Print
Per state law, no. There is no state law that prohibits carrying a firearm openly. However, there are numerous local ordinances that still prohibit open carry. Since the Ohio Supreme Court has stated that open carry is a fundamental right those ordinances could be challenged, but there is no guarantee that you would win -- and this is NOT a suggestion that you try. Before you carry openly anywhere, speak with your local law enforcement and research the law. Expect to be approached by police if you carry openly, because most departments don't even realize its legal. Before you do anything like this, contact a lawyer, don't just trust us.
