The police DO support CCW. PDF Print
If you look hard enough you'll easily be able to find a bunch of high-ranking police officers who refuse to agree with civilian right to carry laws. You've probably been told or seen on TV one of these individuals or their spokesperson disputing the right to carry a firearm as if the result will be daily bloodshed by otherwise law-abiding citizens.

Do you ever wonder if they're really police officers, how much they're being paid, or if they're being forced to make a political statement by a Governor, Mayor or other political figure? It happens, and it happens often. Nearly nine out of ten police officers are willing to sign the Ohioans For Concealed Carry Petition and signify that they are in fact police officers. It's only when someone achieves a level of rank within their department or agency that they become a political puppet.

For instance, the Ohio Chiefs of Police not only refuse to support the legislation we've supported, they send a lawyer to speak against it for them. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the connection between this group and politics. Police Chiefs are almost always appointed to their position by the mayor of the city they work for. The office and accomplishment of these individuals is frequently being used as a method to convey the political agenda of big city mayors. If you could ask these men their true opinion in person and they didn't lie they'd likely have no qualm with civilian right to carry. Groups like this need to be taken at face value, changing their opinion is simply impossible.

Since we started collecting petition signatures we've been amazed at the amount of support we've received from law enforcement. During our last count more then 10% of our signatures were from police officers. We constantly receive letters in the mail with return address labels bearing the FOP logo. -- These letters contain rather large stacks of petition signatures from police officersin nearly every county in Ohio, and from every major police agency in the State.

In reality, actual law enforcement officers are more likely to support the right to carry a firearm by law abiding citizens. In fact, The Buckeye State Sheriff's Association, the only elected law enforcement in the State of Ohio, publically supports the right to carry by law abiding citizens. Thats not a group of appointed Police Chiefs, its the Sheriffs from 88 counties in the State of Ohio.

In fact Sheriff Daniel Beck of Allen County has appeared on television, in print media, and has even written us to inform us of his history as a serious defender of the right to carry firearms for self-defense. We applaud Sheriff Daniel Beck and other Sheriff's who share his opinions and views as political "candidates" who can be removed from office due to their opinions.

The Law Enforcement Alliance of America is in support of Concealed Carry as well.

Since we've started our efforts we've received numerous letters from law enforcement officers of all types - street cops, corrections, specialized units such as gang and drug task forces, etc. The support we receive from law enforcement in general is backed up by the extremely high amount of signatures we've received from this group of supporters.

So if law enforcement officers do in fact support us, what happens to those who said CCW was dangerous, and then watched it pass and see it not result in the mayhem they predicted?

Its fun to watch them eat their words!
