I am a corrections officer for the State of Ohio. Do have to get training to obtain a CHL? PDF Print
The language which pertains is R.C. 2923.125(B)(3).

This section states that the certificate must be for completion of a OPOTC peace officer training school, basic firearms training program, or a firearms requalification program, or another basic training program described in 109.78 or 109.801. ANY OF THESE MUST COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS IN SECTION G, AND MUST BE NO MORE THAN 3 YEARS OLD.

Standard requals (where you go shoot one course of fire yearly) are not going to qualify, and that certificate/date may not be used for HB12 competency.

In our opinion, the only thing that will qualify is the original peace officer school or original firearms school (some academies don't teach firearms, so they go through one academy for firearms, then another for only firearms.) This is the only training that has a chance of meeting the 12 hour requirement. We have never seen or heard of a yearly requal that will meet the 12 hour requirement.

So, if the original school certificate is less than three years old, you can use it, otherwise you are going to need new training for a permit.
