OFCC Forum regulars are all too familiar with the rally cry “Meet and Greet!”, a term often used for members to get together and meet one another while breaking bread.

On July 19, 2008 members will gather in Salem, Ohio for a new type of get together: Meet, Greet, Shoot and Eat!

The Salem Hunting Club of Ohio will be the site for this OFCC hosted social gathering. Members will enjoy a day of camaraderie, various shooting events and then capping the day with a local meal.

Last week, D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier announced a plan to institute checkpoints in a Northeast neighborhood of the city in an effort to reduce the out of control criminal violence in the city.

Since June 7, police have stopped all vehicles at the checkpoint to ascertain if they had a "legitimate purpose" for being in the area.

As explained by police officials at the time of the announcement,
The checkpoint will stop vehicles approaching the 1400 block of Montello Avenue NE, a section of the Trinidad neighborhood that has been plagued with homicides and other violence. Police will search cars if they suspect the presence of guns or drugs, and will arrest people who do not cooperate, under a charge of failure to obey a police officer, officials said.

Safety in Parks Still a Hot Topic PDF Print E-mail

In a headline on the front of the Metro Section, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, has finally gotten around to the asking the question many of us have been thinking for some time, “Are we safe in our parks?” The lead in to the headline reads, “Recent attacks in Northeast Ohio parks, which paralyzed one woman and killed another, have people wondering. . .”

When I first saw this I thought, “Finally, the mainstream media, in the form of Ohio’s largest daily newspaper, gets it.” No such luck. The piece turns out to be Pollyanna piece composed of mostly patrons saying they really don’t see a problem and public officials saying it’s business as usual, everything is the just fine, and ignore the man behind the curtain (the man with the big rock waiting to bash your brains out).

Let us know what you think in our forums.

Also, the Plain Dealer has a blog where you may leave comments. Respectful thoughts may also be sent to the article’s authors via the links at the top of the article.

Gun Control Groups Planning to Switch Tactics PDF Print E-mail
Gun Grabbers

Acknowledging that public opinion is against them and that a loss in the Supreme Court of the United States is likely eminent, gun control groups are regrouping and preparing to try new tactics to accomplish their unpopular goals.

"We've lost the battle on what the Second Amendment means," campaign president Paul Helmke told ABC News. "Seventy-five percent of the public thinks it's an individual right. Why are we arguing a theory anymore? We are concerned about what we can do practically." He later went on to say, "We're expecting D.C. to lose the case, but this could be good from the standpoint of the political-legislative side."

The bears as a somber reminder to gun owners that with every victory comes a new battle. Now that banning firearms seems to be, for now anyway, a lost cause, gun control groups plan to work instead on restricting ownership through other means.

Every so often we like to highlight actions of OFCC members, and this particular email I received piqued my interest. Not only did member Dick Stobbs successfully get a "No Guns Allowed" sign removed from one AT&T store in Central Ohio, but potentially all of them in Ohio!

Re: "No Weapons Allowed" sign removed - AT&T Wireless, 1495 Polaris Park Way, Columbus

AT&T Wireless removed the sign on April 7, 2008; sending an e-mail by Robert Chumlea to inform us. The e-mail states:
"The sign" was removed today and if I heard correctly should also be removed from all AT&T stores state wide pending an official operations E-mail distribution! If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to contact me by E-mail or by phone. I thank you for your patience in the resolution of your issue and hope you continue to be a patron of AT&T.
