ACTION ITEM: Ohioans For Concealed Carry is requesting that all of our supporters take the time to place a few telephone calls over the next few days, even if you need to call multiple times and both numbers below. Please take the time to contact the Criminal Justice Committee Chair Rep. Ann Womer-Benjam (R-Aurora) today, and every other day of the following week. She can be reached at home: (330) 696-4217 or in Columbus: (614) 466-2004. It is imperative that you politely insist that Rep. Womer-Benjamin live up to her promise to give HB225 a second proponent hearing as soon as possible. Do not let her or any member of her staff fool you into believing the bill is dead. Representative Ann Womer-Benjamin has the power to put HB225 on next week Tuesday's agenda, and she absolutely must hear from you. Remember: politely insist.

Over The Rhine PDF Print E-mail

The Cincinnati Enquirer has a rather interesting story about the black on black crime increase in what is called the "Over The Rhine" neighborhood. Apparently the area is just nine homicides away from matching last year's entire total of 29 (and it's only June!), while non-fatal shootings have exceeded last year's record for the current time period by 27. This violent increase in black on black violence is prompting Rev. Leslie I. Gaines to have "Saturday neighborhood walk-throughs" and he's threatening to keep doing it every Saturday. Wouldn't it be amazing if the Klein v. Leis lawsuit ruling came down in our favor tommorrow and Hamilton County became Vermont again? Over The Rhine residents would have a rather unique opportunity to defend themselves and it'd sure make more sense compared to walking unarmed through a self-admitted, clearly dangerous neighborhood.

Theres a really interesting (if not harsh) story on Capitol Gate today which quotes yours truly quite a bit. I will give Capitol Gate some credit over every other newspaper or media "agency" I've ever dealt with: They have never tried to mislead or inadvertantly change what we've tried to say. Infact, when I pointed out an error or two in their reporting they acknowledged the mistake and thanked me. Check out the article, it's a little disappointing but mostly true.

This article appeared in today's (June 8th) Columbus Dispatch. The incident happened in a public housing complex where crime is often rampant. An intruder forced his way into a family's home and threatened one of the occupants to give him money or he would shoot her. The father of a boy who lived in the apartment shot and killed the intruder as he turned toward him after stuffing his pockets with the family's $6,000 nest egg. The man has not been charged in the shooting.
