OFCC Membership: Many of you may remember the 2000 spring meeting we had in Columbus. This year, things will be done differently. First, we're going to have a much more strict agenda. Second, we're going to mail that agenda to every member once we complete it! Third, we're going to try and accomplish more than just updating you on issues and talking this year. It's time to shift into the offensive gear and move forward. This year's meeting will also create quite a bit of "positions" in the organization, so if you're ready to finally step forward and take on a leadership role you need to get involved. Please read on for more details... |

Although this happened in Tennessee, here is a story where a car jacking suspect was shot dead
(Also see WREG homepage for video report.)
"Major Jerry Lawson with the Memphis police told News Channel 3, "Her gentleman friend who does have a license to carry a pistol threw her out of the way and did shoot the robber he was DOA on the scene here." Police say the suspect may have tried to get away...but ended up dying underneath the same S-U-V he allegedly tried to car jack." |

tisk tisk! The Cincinnati Post is running this story regarding the temporary restraining order which was issued to prevent Cincinnati Police Chief Thomas Streicher from entering the home he shares with his estranged wife. Ms. Streicher makes some harsh accusations against the Chief, and if they're true he's in for a world of hurt. Cincinnati residents should be tripping over themselves to contact Cincinnati Safety Director Kent Ryan, City Manager John F. Shirley (513-352-5200), and city council members to demand that Chief Thomas Streicher's duty weapon be confiscated until this issue is solved. The ATF says: "anyone who is subject to a court order restraining the person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of the intimate partner" is prohibited from posessing a firearm |

note: this is a non-ccw issue, but relatively important. -jeff [] ABA Journal, April, 2001, issue has an article titled: "Lawyer-advocates mount national gun control effort" headlined Battles Won, War Continues. The basic idea of the article is that what can't be done on a national level should be approached on a local level - and they have picked three states where laws allow for local gun control intiatives. The group has targeted Colorado, Illinois and Ohio. Read the story here
