From the Dayton Daily News. I wonder why the guns would be going to N.Y., aren't they illegal there? Oh that is right, criminals don't worry about any law.

Check out this article, written by Miguel A. Faria Jr., M.D. If you get anything from this article, let it be: "The benefits of firearms in the hands of law-abiding citizens are the lives saved, the property protected and the injuries prevented, not the burglar or rapist body count." Well said, and in the face of HCI/VPC. Very rarely do they consider the non-fatal use of a firearm as self defense. Maybe that's where HCI/VPC draws that fine line between "lie" and "deceive".

The second part of this earlier post on the use of firearms by women defending themselves against attackers. This is a must read. Very good statistics.

"Fortunately, research shows that only about 2 percent of defensive gun uses end with the user needing to pull the trigger; the overwhelming majority require only the credible threat of a gun to terminate the attack."

The bulk of this part seems to be a condemnation of The University of Minnesota's policy that posessing a firearm on campus is reason for expulsion. However, the author continues to stress the point that a firearm is still the best defense in these situations.

This is a very interesting article (if not research) on the benefits of women fighting back with a firearm when being attacked and rape is attempted. The results show an amazing support for defending yourself with a firearm during an attempted rape.

"I wish to single out one particular subtype of physical resistance: Use of a weapon, and especially a firearm, is statistically a woman's best means of resistance, greatly enhancing her odds of escaping both rape and injury, compared to any other strategy of physical or verbal resistance."

The only problem I see with such a study is the fact that most college women won't be able to own a handgun until they're 21 years old. In any event, be sure to check out this story. A follow up article is expected on Wednesday to complete this post, look for it here.

Klein vs. Leis (ccw lawsuit) stalling again! PDF Print E-mail

Here we go again. The City of Cincinnati decided to throw a curve ball at the plaintiffs in the Klein v. Leis lawsuit a few months ago, so they tried to bring in Handgun Contol, Inc. lawyers as co-counsel. Seeing this as a stunt the judge refused, they appealed. The appeals court refused, they appealed. This caused the issue to get literally stuck in the Ohio Supreme Court Calendar where apparently the City thought it would stay for a very very long time. (read more)

Ohio Legislation

The Columbu Dispatch has this article on Tom Brinkman's Vermont CCW bill to be introduced next month. Rumors I heard in Columbus today suggested the bill would be introduced by now, but apparently they're still hunting down other law makers interested in co-sponsoring the legislation. Things are starting to pick up...
