One of these days I expect the Toledo Blade to change its name to something softer, like maybe the Toledo Spoon or Toledo Safety Scissors. Referencing the blade of a knife or sword is just too aggressive sounding for such a liberal, feel-good paper who apparently all believe if we'd just ban all weapons that crime would magically stop and we'd live in a rosy tinted Mr. Roger's neighborhood for the rest of time. Unless I'm missing the point, and they're referring to a lawnmower blade. Well, that still won't work since Karl Childers used one to kill Doyle Hargraves. Seems most anything can be used as a weapon. Could be they mean a blade of grass. I suppose they fancy it means they're on the "cutting edge", but even that seems too violent a reference for them. But, I digress.
This past Saturday, they ran an editorial tearing into Governor Strickland and the Ohio legislature for what they apparently feel was ramming through HB 184 and endangering the safety of the entire state, to hear them tell it.
Of course, the story is so full of lies and half-truths anyone not familiar with the reality of the bill could easily be lead astray. |

Last week, D.C. Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier announced a plan to institute checkpoints in a Northeast neighborhood of the city in an effort to reduce the out of control criminal violence in the city.
Since June 7, police have stopped all vehicles at the checkpoint to ascertain if they had a "legitimate purpose" for being in the area.
As explained by police officials at the time of the announcement,
The checkpoint will stop vehicles approaching the 1400 block of Montello Avenue NE, a section of the Trinidad neighborhood that has been plagued with homicides and other violence. Police will search cars if they suspect the presence of guns or drugs, and will arrest people who do not cooperate, under a charge of failure to obey a police officer, officials said. |

In a headline on the front of the Metro Section, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, has
finally gotten around to the asking the question many of us have been thinking for
some time, “Are we safe in our parks?” The lead in to the headline reads, “Recent
attacks in Northeast Ohio parks, which paralyzed one woman and killed another,
have people wondering. . .”
When I first saw this I thought, “Finally, the mainstream media, in the form of
Ohio’s largest daily newspaper, gets it.” No such luck. The piece turns out to
be Pollyanna piece composed of mostly patrons saying they really don’t see a
problem and public officials saying it’s business as usual, everything is the just
fine, and ignore the man behind the curtain (the man with the big rock waiting to
bash your brains out).

Acknowledging that public opinion is against them and that a loss in the Supreme Court of the United States is likely eminent, gun control groups are regrouping and preparing to try new tactics to accomplish their unpopular goals.
"We've lost the battle on what the Second Amendment means," campaign president Paul Helmke told ABC News. "Seventy-five percent of the public thinks it's an individual right. Why are we arguing a theory anymore? We are concerned about what we can do practically." He later went on to say, "We're expecting D.C. to lose the case, but this could be good from the standpoint of the political-legislative side."
The bears as a somber reminder to gun owners that with every victory comes a new battle. Now that banning firearms seems to be, for now anyway, a lost cause, gun control groups plan to work instead on restricting ownership through other means.
