Some top level state government positions look like they'll be a key topic in 2002. While this isn't directly related to CCW legislation it is very much so related to the State's interpretation of existing or future laws. Check out this Cincinnati Post article on Deters to run for attorney general |

News Channel 5 (WEWS) in Cleveland is holding a poll. Unlike the flawed Ohio Poll released Thursday this poll asks the question properly. Please take a moment to follow the link above and vote in this public poll. As this news item was being written the majority were in favor of passing a CCW law. Lets get those numbers flowing! |

Today the Institute for Policy Research at The University of Cincinnati (Ohio) released a poll (pdf) of 804 random Ohioans. This poll is both flawed and misleading to say the least. The title of the poll itself is "Substantial Majority Continues To Oppose Concealed-Carry", yet the poll simply did not ask those being polled if they were in favor of or opposed to making it legal to carry a firearm for self-defense. Michigan is currently fighting a referendum to literally kill their efforts to pass a CCW reform bill. Here is some goodnews to help their fight: Concealed pistol saves Detroit woman's life.
With cops like this woman, its a good thing the FOP in Ohio is firmly against allowing anyone but cops to carry firearms. Right? |

This Cleveland Plain Dealer editorial talks about the CDC's recent study about "gun deaths" dropping. Amazingly they thing the following only applies to broadcasters: While the homicide rate in the 1990s dropped 32 percent, televised newscasts about all killings increased by 473 percent, the Department of Justice found. That's a worthy condemnation of the "if-it-bleeds-it-leads" approach that broadcasters too often take.

(Thread from Free Republic)
Recently Cincinnati's lawsuit against gun manufacturers was thrown out. Having filed the suit in the first place, the implication is that Cincinnati is very hostile to gun owners and the right to self defense. It's my understanding that Ohio does not have concealed carry. (read more)

The Cincinnati Enquirer has a story where Keith Fangman, Fraternal Order of Police president (Cincinnati) was quoted with some rather harsh statements about the on going riots in that part of the state. During the talk radio show Fangman was on he lambasted the local government for neglecting law enforcement's needs, passing feel good racial profiling legislation, and then said he is strongly in favor of concealed carry by citizens and hoped that Governor Taft would eventually sign the bill into law. These are the kind of people in Law Enforcement who I support, and not only because of their views on CCW, but because of their common sense views in general.
