In Your Home: Self Defense Quiz PDF Print E-mail

This link to a situational self-defense quiz is very good. It reminds me of a live-fire situational shooting I participated in two years ago. I absolutely love those video projectors with the backstop behind them. You can shoot at the screen (bad guys) and then the system plays back the scenario and highlights where you "hit". It's a great training device primarily used for law-enforcement. Here's a good example of it's tricky power: While watching other students go through the system I memorized the outcome of an event. Anticipating the bad guy drawing on me I shot. However, in my version of the same exact scenario the man had a television remote, not a gun. The ability of these systems to adapt and change the outcome makes them an invaluable training aid.

The NRA website has information on The Right To Carry in 2001 I noticed the NRA lists sources other than their own organization. I gag every time I read HCI quoting VPC. Check out the link and scroll down to "State RTC Permit Statistics" for facts as compiled by the states, not a partisan group.

Colorado CCW records public? PDF Print E-mail

I hope this law does not happen here in Ohio if we get CCW law: Boulder News (From Colorado). Note: I think Rocket meant to say he hopes the law would pass. CCW reform legislation in Ohio, much like previous legislation, should remove records of qualified permit holders from the public record status. Lawful Ohioans should not be publically "registered" as gun owners to have their names printed in newspapers run by anti-gun editors. The secretive nature of concealed carry legislation is paramount to it's success. Imagine if criminals could look up the permit status of a victim prior to raping, robbing, or killing them?

How will the "Million" Mom March portray this one? A mother of a six year old girl with a felony rap sheet. She had a concealed and loaded firearm in her purse. Clearly, she was barred from possession: Ms. Woodson was convicted of a violent felony charge - aggravated robbery - in 1982 and is not allowed to own or possess a handgun, Detective Ashley Nichols said. Here is the Toledo Blade story on the issue. Should this display of negligent actions by a felon justify the disarming of lawful Ohioans? Of course not. The Toledo Blade accepts This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , so if you live in the area think about writing one.

From the Dayton Daily News Huber Heights police Lt. Herschel Caudill should be applauded for the following quote. Lt. Caudill's office can be reached at (937) 237-5870 The situation could have been worse, Caudill said, and sends a message to would-be burglars. "It shows what can happen to you," he said. Note: Authorities are still pondering charging the 14 year old resident of the home for shooting the burglar!

Careless mother causes shooting PDF Print E-mail

The Toledo Blade is running a story about a six year old girl who may have shot herself in the shoulder Sunday. The firearm was stored in a purse and the child found it while the rest of the family was apparently sleeping. The Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence will likely speak out against this (being based in Toledo), but they'll fail to realize this is not an issue of violence. The mother should be charged with Ohio's existing laws regarding endangering your children and the child should have been taught the eddie eagle theory in school, even if they didn't associate it with the NRA. Unfortunately, this tragic incident will instead be used to champion taking away more rights from the law abiding and responsible gun owners.

Toby Hoover at it again (Columbus Dispatch) PDF Print E-mail

Saturday, 10 February 2001
A letter was printed by The Columbus Dispatch from Toby Hoover, the anti-gun director of "The Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence". Ms. Hoover's emotional sensationalism and linking criminals to lawful Ohioans was printed almost verbatim to that of other newspapers. Ironically, the Columbus Dispatch has never printed a letter submitted by me from the Cleveland area, yet they've printed her letter from Toledo. Maybe it was my position on the issue and not my position on the Ohio map? How to write a letter to the Columbus Dispatch.

Few safe places are left in our armed America -- This link was anonymously submitted. It leads to a Free Republic thread which started with a post from the Chicago Sun Times. The author appears to be writing a very "anti gun" editorial. But just wait until you get a chance to read it.

Ohio Representative Tom Brinkman in the news (CCW) PDF Print E-mail

Friday, 09 February 2001
This story from Capitol Gate is about Tom Brinkman and what will likely be this year's first CCW bill. This legislation is Vermont style CCW. The sub-title of the article is great: "Tom Brinkman’s new proposal ain’t your daddy’s concealed-carry bill." One discouraging note: Speaker of the House, Representative Householder, said he predicts "some type" of CCW legislation will pass, but he doesn't know when. Translation: You need to call Representative Householder's office: (614) 466-2501 and then write him a letter on paper. We can't let them stall this issue!
