This AP/Cleveland Live Story is rather scary. Perry County Ohio will only have one Sheriff on the road at any point in time during any shift. Budget cut backs caused significant layoffs in the County Sheriff's Office forcing may distinguished individuals to be demoted from Sgt. to Dispatcher! One of the best arguments in favor of self-defense and the right to carry firearms is the fact that the police "are never there when you need them" and they are not required to be by law. In most cases, you can't even hold them liable if they know you're in danger and fail to protect you. But imagine living in a county of 30,000 some people where there is only one Deputy Sheriff, period. Yikes!
