Dayton's whiotv.com is reporting that last week two men robbed a Papa John's Pizza delivery driver at gun point. The robbers got away with $22, a cell phone and the food. Unfortunately for this driver and most others that make their living delivering pizzas, company policies prohibit them from arming themselves for self defense while working. In fact, there have been instances where drivers have been fired for trying to protect themselves while on the job. Comments from OFCC Senate District 10 Coordinator Larry Moore: "As I recall Papa Johns prohibits their drivers from carrying - even with a CHL. Another instance of employer sponsored CPZ. And another huge reason that many pizza delivery drivers are considering unionization. Most everyone knows that all the major pizza makers prohibit their drivers from being armed and that the companies do not provide any security for their drivers. Just make a phone call and you can get supper and your target right to your door! Or simply follow the little signs on the top of their cars until they leave a delivery. Selecting the victims for robbery is so much easier when the victim is almost certainly unarmed and a little light identifies the target. There simply is not enough money in pizza delivery to risk getting shot or killed." Several pizzerias are listed in the Do Not Patronize While Armed Database including, Papa John's, Marco's Pizza, Pizza Hut and more. There are also several pizza places and other restaurants that are automatic victim zones due to state law. Businesses in Ohio that voluntarily disarm their employees and customers should be held 100% liable for the resulting trauma, injuries or loss of life that may result.
