Commentary by: Larry S. Moore, OFCC Senate District 10 Coordinator: WDTN, Channel 2 Dayton, is reporting a Riverside woman called police complaining that her ex-husband threatened to kill her. According to the report he threatened her life and tried to choke her at her home. She used her forearms and elbows to defend herself. Previous attacks and instances of domestic violence have been reported including a May 31 attempt to smother her with pillows. The report quotes Dayton Police Sergeant David Crigler, It is a sad statement for our society that men continue to prey upon women. It is even sadder that many women resist proper self-defense training, whether personal safety or concealed carry training. OFCC often carries stories about this type of domestic abuse in the hopes that women will take the message and take the appropriate steps for self-protection. Only then will women begin to remove the shroud of fear that many abuse victims must bear and start on the path to self-reliance. WDTN could have provided a public service if there were a photo of the man or a description of his automobile to help citizens help the police. |
