Comments by Larry S. Moore, OFCC Senate District 10 Coordinator: Normally follow-up stories provide information about an arrest and charges being filed in a crime case. This story on the 5/3 Bank, Centerville, robbery releases a video of the robber. What jumped out of the report by WHIO TV-7 in Dayton was "At this time, officers are not sure why the bank was targeted." I just don't understand that statement. Why does anyone rob a bank? My guess is "for the money". Maybe there is a thrill factor but I'm going with the money. Crime studies often note that location is a large factor in bank robberies. When Columbus led Ohio in the number of bank robberies, the theory was the easy access to interstate highways for quick get-away (excluding rush hour traffic). There may be a new factor at work in Ohio. Why rob 5/3 Bank? How about the robber is guaranteed that there will be no armed resistance inside the bank thanks to the 5/3 no guns policy. Maybe someone should call the Centerville police and suggest they check the sign on the door as to why the bank was targeted. It is as plain as the nose on your face. |
