Commentary by Larry S. Moore, OFCC Senate District 10 Coordinator: The Dayton Daily News is reporting that auto thefts in the city have dropped more in the past 4 years in Dayton than any other Ohio city. That sounds like great news but is it? The odds are still 1 in 61 odds in Dayton that your car will be stolen. That is second worst in the state only to Cleveland with 1 in 56 chances in Cleveland that your auto will be stolen. Still it is a significant improvement even if there is a long way to go. The connection to concealed carry should be obvious to CHL holders. Those are the odds that could cost the CHL holder not only a vehicle but also their handgun. This is another of the increased risks presented by the "No Guns" gun buster signs at businesses that choose to post. It is also a state-mandated risk for all those locations specified in the ccw law where a concealed handgun license (CHL) holder can not carry. The safest place for the CHL holder to have a handgun is with them. Please continue to write your state legislators, or talk to them while they are on summer recess, about reforming Ohio's mandated criminal protection zone. |
