The following was written by Gerard Valentino: The NRA's decision to pull their 2007 convention from Columbus, OH was met with scorn by the local establishment media with channel 10's Kevin Landers leading the charge. Lander's was openly hostile to NRA Executive Vice-President Wayne Lapierre during the press conference and insisted through his questioning that the guns banned by the Columbus City Council are weapons of war. After the press conference I approached Mr. Landers, off camera, gave him my card and offered to take him to the range so he could see first hand the performance of the guns in question. I've made this offer to dozens of reporters over the years and each reporter was always gracious in declining. Mr. Landers however immediately attacked gun owners and our rights to own a gun in Columbus by stating he didn't see why we would need such guns when it is illegal to fire one within the city limits. Instead of answering my question about the 2nd Ammendment and our right to bear arms he then demanded references by students I trained and when I told him I wouldn't give out the names in a public setting he rolled his eyes and turned his back on me. Without warning he then turned around and asked where I trained - when I explained to him that I am a private trainer he sighed and walked away again. (Click Read More to continue) In response to the request for credential and references I sent the email below but have not heard back. Mr. Landers put on a good show at the press conference and through his actions proved that he is concerned only with making the news as well as being rabidly anti-gun. Mr. Landers belittled gun owners in a very public setting so we need to see if he will accept my very public challege. My guess is he won't. Regardless, the challenge is out there to Mr. Landers first but also to any member of the media that wants to take the time and learn the facts concerning so-called assault weapons. The Kevin Landers Clock will begin a count, day by day, of how long it takes a member of the media to accept my offer. Gerard Valentino's email to Kevin Landers: -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Demonstation Offer Still Stands Date: Mon, 18 Jul 2005 17:01:47 -0400 From: Gerard Valentino To: <script language='JavaScript' type='text/javascript'> <!-- var prefix = 'ma' + 'il' + 'to'; var path = 'hr' + 'ef' + '='; var addy41179 = 'kevin.landers' + '@'; addy41179 = addy41179 + '10tv' + '.' + 'com'; document.write( '<a ' + path + '\'' + prefix + ':' + addy41179 + '\'>' ); document.write( addy41179 ); document.write( '<\/a>' ); //-->\n </script><script language='JavaScript' type='text/javascript'> <!-- document.write( '<span style=\'display: none;\'>' ); //--> </script>This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it <script language='JavaScript' type='text/javascript'> <!-- document.write( '</' ); document.write( 'span>' ); //--> </script> Mr. Landers, I would like to reiterate my offer of a demonstration of the weapons banned by the City of Columbus. Feel free to contact me at your convenience in order to find a date that will work for both of our schedules. You can reach me via cellphone at 614-778-4874. Although you implied that I was not a legitimate certified trainer during our chat today I will gladly supply a copy of my NRA credentials and a list of student references. I have an obligation to keep the private information of my students private so I did not feel right giving their names in such a public setting. All I need at this point from is a means to get them to you. I look forward to hearing from you so we can use this opportunity to help you better understand the type of weapons being banned. Although I've made this offer to many reporters in the last few years none have taken me up on it. Due to your questioning today you seem like the perfect reporter for the job. As you can see by the tag line at the bottom of my email we have the Ohioans for Concealed Carry picnic scheduled for July 30th in Powell. After the picnic would be a great time for us to head to the range. I will even offer to have you attend the picnic as my personal guest and spend the day with me as I organized the event. My guess is being a fair-minded and honest person you will jump at the chance to accurately see what these weapons can, and can't do. Thank you so much for your time today and in the future. |
