Representative Tom Brinkman's HB91 will have it's first hearing before the Criminal Justice Committee next Tuesday, September 13th at 2:30pm. The hearing is scheduled to take place in the Statehouse, Room 121. (Arrive early if you intend to attend this hearing. Meetings have been known to be relocated if public participation is significant)
The first hearing will be for Sponsor testimony only.
Furture hearings, if scheduled, will allow for proponent, opponent, and interested party testimony from the public. Representative Brinkman is well-known for introducing and championing "Vermont" style concealed carry legislation. His Alaska style legislation would leave the existing license structure in place, while removing the requirement to obtain a license at all. Alaska's unique approach allows those citizens who wish to carry a firearm to do so without government involvement, while allowing those who wish to obtain reciprocity with other states a method for obtaining a formal license. Chances of this legislation being enacted while Governor Taft remains in office are fairly questionable, based on his actions against House Bill 12. |
