As was previously reported would be happening, Representative Tom Brinkman brought his bill out for hearings yesterday to help reform Ohio's concealed handgun law. His bill, dubbed "the real right-to-carry bill" by aide Kara Joseph, drew co-sponsorship from 24 members of the 99 House representatives and would allow carrying without a license after meeting certain requirements, reduce some of the criminal protection zones, and close the media access loophole. Brinkman cited the overwhelming success of the current law as reason to improve it further. "We have issued 45,000 gun permits and there's not been a single incident of a citizen with a permit committing a crime," he said. Representative Jim Aslanides, who introduced the current CHL law, is expected to introduce a second bill aimed at reform later this month. OFCC supports their efforts, and a full analysis of these bills will be posted when available. (Click 'READ MORE' to download a summary of this bill...) Click here to download a PDF summary of HB91 |
