Echoing the sentiments we reported yesterday of several high-level Ohio Republicans, State Auditor Betty Montgomery and Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell spoke of fiscal and educational reform earlier this week at a GOP rally in Massillon.

Blackwell urged fiscal responsibility and educational reform in order to keep the best and brightest students from leaving Ohio. He also urged a return to more traditional GOP values.
"Politics and life, they don't respond to sideline sitters. You have to be engaged,'' he said. "We must start governing like Republicans.... I am not Taft lite. I am, in fact, Ken Blackwell, a representative for change.''

Montgomery countered by calling for $2,000 grants to each child to guarantee higher education. She also cited the need for a moderate candidate and played the gender card.
"It's critical as Republicans that you look at whether or not this state will elect someone too far to the right any more than someone too far to the left,'' she said. "By the way, 55 percent of voters in the last election were women, so it doesn't hurt to have a woman candidate.''
