John Appleton of The Republican wrote an interesting article about the Holyoke Revolver Club, a club for kids 10-20 that teaches firearms safety and participates in shooting competitions.
"Since 1914 there have been no injuries," program director Norm Desilets said. "We are in a sport which is the safest sport in the country."

"We started this to give these kids something to do and to get them off the streets. We teach them safety and the proper handling of firearms, specifically rifles," Desilets said.

"Some of the kids' parents have mentioned to me that since joining the team, their kids have developed better respect for other people," he said. "Some have also improved their grades in school. If you goof off in school, you are out."
We applaud efforts by individuals like Desilets, who dedicate themselves to introducing the new generation to the fun and comraderie that the shooting sports offer.
