WBNS Channel 10 calls it "a destination neighborhood; a place to enjoy a cup of coffee al fresco or a lazy afternoon at the park," but armed criminals are making it a rather dangerous place to be. Even in your own shower or bed in your own home. (Click 'READ MORE' to Continue...) From the NBC Channel 4 website: Police said a homeowner was in his back yard in the 300 block of East Sycamore Avenue at about 10:50 p.m. when he noticed a man loitering in the area. When he approached the man, he pulled out a gun and demanded cash.Police are investigating a number of robberies and a home invasion where a woman was in the shower when three men broke in and tied her up while ransacking the house. These are not isolated incidents, either, according to the Channel 4 story: Then, Monday at about 6 a.m., a couple was sleeping in their home on Seibert Street when they awoke to their dogs barking. They were tied up naked and the robbers stole cash, credit cards, jewelry, cell phones and a new white BMW 325i with Ohio license plate DIJ 6782.Columbus WBNS Channel 10 highlighted just how serious the problem is in the German Village area: All three attacks happened in the 11th precinct, which stretches all the way to I-71 and Livingston Avenue. In just the past seven days, Columbus police have responded to nine robberies, 20 burglaries, eight assaults and one homicide. The next time someone asks you "Why would you want to carry a gun in a park?" just point them to the quaint German Village area, where people go for a cup of coffee or a lazy afternoon in the park. These incidents in otherwise "good neighborhoods" demonstrate exactly why you never know when you might find yourself in a situation where your life depends upon your ability to defend yourself. Then there is the novel idea of leaving your safety in the hands of others... Elizabeth Bucheroth has lived there for two years. She says the recent armed attacks are simply scary and has started looking into getting a security system. (WBNS Website)What a novel idea. That'll scare the criminals, and it'll be a great deterrent when you're walking to your car or enjoying a lazy day in the park! |
