The Ohio gubernatorial candidates campaigning for the pro-gun vote would be advised to look to the example of Virginia gubernatorial candidate Jerry Kilgore. In a recent radio interview, Kilgore went on record as supporting changing Virginia law to allow citizens with concealed-weapons permits to carry their firearms into restaurants and bars. "The safest thing would be to carry it and keep it" rather than leave the weapon in a car, Kilgore said. Unlike Ohio, several other states have found more reasonable means of regulating firearms in Class D establishments that serve alcohol for consumption on premises; ranging from permitting the practice provided the licensee does not drink at all, to restricting ccw only when the licensee is legally impaired. Florida takes it a step further and only punishes misuse of a firearm, whether impaired or not. As would be expected, none of these states have had any problems with CHL holders committing crimes, proving once again that the card carrying good guys are not the ones to be feared. |
