A Wednesday Cincinnati Enquirer story reported that a 30 year old man was shot by a Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy Tuesday after allegedly pointing a gun at officers and screaming "shoot me, shoot me". The suspect's 18 year old ex-girlfriend told police the man picked the lock to her apartment and entered it around 7am. The ex-boyfriend, "armed with several firearms" did this while she was asleep, waking her into a hell she will likely never forget.... The woman told Cincinnati police the suspect sprayed her face with pepper spray, choked her, threatened to kill her as he pointed a firearm at her and refused to allow her to leave or call for help for several hours.

It's stories like these that make me wonder why an adult woman such as this one can not defend herself with a handgun in her own home. Luckily in this situation the break in, kidnapping, assault and threats to kill did not result in a death -- but what if? Does anyone doubt the woman in this case was in fear of her life for many hours? Where, exactly, were the police during the ordeal?
