The quote of the day comes from Clara Cobb, Features Editor of the Daily Toreador, who wrote a column describing her ordeal after an intruder broke into her house:
"I am a pretty liberal hippie when it comes to life, a make-love-not-war type of girl... I have been an anti-hand gun person for years, mainly because they serve one purpose: to kill people. However, this has become a matter of self-defense. Damn it, this is Texas, and I'm gettin' a gun." (sic) As often is the case, it took a criminal attack to force this young woman's eyes open and get her to realize that liberal ideals won't save you from a violent criminal intent on doing you harm. (Click 'READ MORE' to continue...) Fortunately for Cobb, she never came face to face with the intruder. If she had, she would likely have learned that a knife in the hands of an untrained person is much less useful for self defense than a firearm. She was lucky, this story could have turned out very differently. If there is a next time, she will be better prepared after taking firearms training and buying a firearm for personal protection. She also now knows that a firearm itself is nothing but a tool. It is the person behind the tool that determines whether the gun takes a life or saves a life. Click here to read the full story. |
