The Alrosa nighclub is being sued on the grounds that it failed to provide adequate security to prevent Nathan Gale from going on a shooting spree which killed four people, including former Pantera guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. The plaintiffs are Vincent Abbott, who was the guitarist's brother and drummer for the group Damageplan; Chris Paluska, the band's tour manager; and John Brooks, a drum technician. Abbott is suing on behalf of his brother's estate. The nighclub issued a statement after the lawsuit against them had been served. "Alrosa could not have done anything to prevent this tragedy," said Rebecca Price, a lawyer for the club. "Alrosa feels great sympathy for the surviving family members." (Click 'READ MORE' to continue...) Whether the nightclub could have done more is debatable. Whether the State of Ohio could have is another matter. Soon after the shooting occurred, it became known that an Ohio CHL holder was within five feet of Gale but was unable to stop him because he had been disarmed. Nightclubs that serve alcohol are one of the many Criminal Protection Zones that prohibit CHL holders from protecting themselves or others. This needs to be changed before more innocent lives are lost which could have been saved had the incident occurred in one of the many states that do not have such a restriction.
