A new threat to concealed carry license holders comes in the form of Senate Bill 292, introduced by Senator Ray Miller from Columbus (D-15)
Miller's legislation is best described by the bill's synopsis: ...to permit political subdivisions to prohibit the carrying of concealed handguns in any park, swimming pool, sports field, or other outdoor premises or property owned, leased, or otherwise under the control of the political subdivision. In other words, every local government other than a township would be permitted to create a "no guns" criminal protection zone anywhere they wish. Some might even stretch the "otherwise under the control of the political subdivision" to completely outlaw concealed carry within their city limits. Ohioans For Concealed Carry has been sitting patiently while the Sandusky courts have refused to move forward in our litigation against the City of Clyde -- where illegal attempts to prohibit concealed carry in their parks were challenged by this organization. Now, the latest threat is this legislation, and it must be stopped. Call your Senators today and tell them to defeat SB292 at all costs. |
