The Ohio University student newspaper The Post printed a very good article by student Ashley Herzog. Herzog understands the truth about firearms for personal protection.
"A world in which only lawbreakers own guns is bad enough for men - but it’s an absolute nightmare for women...

"If you are unarmed, all you can do is scream and hope an equally strong man comes to your rescue. But if you happen to have a handgun in your purse, you have the option of shooting at the would-be rapist."

The same is true for anyone who is attacked by a larger stronger opponent, or a criminal who is armed. Everyone has the right to defend themselves, and the story Herzog relates demonstrates that perfectly.
My friend was home alone one night when she heard someone prowling around the back door. She briefly considered calling the police, but knew she couldn’t wait 10 to 15 minutes for them to arrive. So she grabbed her dad’s handgun, went downstairs and yelled, "Get out of my house or I’ll shoot you!" The last thing she heard was the prowler running away.

And what does she have to say about the anti-gunner's argument that if you outlaw guns crime rates will go down?
"...if we outlaw gun ownership, and thus reverse the majority of state laws that permit carrying a gun in some capacity, we pretty much ensure that the only civilians who own them are people who feel comfortable committing felonies."
